I searched around and couldn't find any threads related to my problem specifically so I'll try to make it short and simple. I recently bought a new to me 2015 Sportsman 850sp. Test rode it (not much), loaded it up in the truck, and I was on my way. Soon after I got home, went to unload it and the shifter sheared completely off at the transmission. I took the seat and plastics off to get a better look and sure enough someone had welded the thing on there as a temporary fix. I can still manually shift it into gear with pliers and I have all gears except high. It will not drive anywhere in high gear, just rev up and sit still. Low and reverse both work. From my understanding from looking at it, I am guessing the whole trans needs to be pulled just to replace that shifter, correct? I mean since high gear doesn't work anyway, it needs to be pulled and either fixed or replaced but I'm wondering if that's a separate issue (maybe a sensor or clutch isn't grabbing in that gear). How bad of a job is it to pull the trans?? Why would I have every gear besides high? Any input is appreciated.
