1997 Sportsman 500 dies after 30 minutes of running, why?

I have a 1997 Sportsman 500 and it starts right up and runs good but after 30-35 minutes, I have never timed it it just up and quits. First time it was out of fuel, so I thought nothing of it but it continues to do it.

I use it to plow snow and it takes about 35-45 minutes to plow it all off and I never quite get it done before it quits. Let it set 30 minutes or so and boom fires right off and runs.

I replaced the ignition coil with a brand new one and still does it.

Seems to me to be electrical related and something gets hot and it quits, once it cools life is good. Engine is full of oil, full of coolant.

Any ideas?

Jeff

Fast Idle/New Carb

2000 Polaris 500 Sportsman

Installed a new cheap e-bay carb because slide in original carb would not rise. New carb is running great except that bike is idling too fast even with idle screw backed out all the way. Wondering if main jet could be too large, it is not marked, or should I check to see where pilot screw is set. Not sure whether it is plugged or not. I think it is supposed to be backed out 2 5/8 turns from seated. Thanks, Hoot

Headlight Bulb (Low beam)

Now that I have fixed the voltage issues, I need to replace all the bulbs. Does anyone know how to replace the bulbs in the low beams (two lights in the front brush guard). Wondering if I need to take the entire reflective backing out of the housing to get to the bulbs. Any bulb number would be great.

Thanks

Gotta XMR Wow

Was in a dealership checking out atv’s and Just happened to see a used 2013 camo 1000 XMR Outlander in amazing condition, I thought at first glance it was brand new! It looked so bad ass I couldn’t resist and came home with it! I’ve added the passenger seat with the back cargo box and just put on the Yoshimura slip on, love that sound! I’ve had it about 2 months now and I love it, but with the warmer weather coming should I get some type of fuel pack or tuner for the pipe, I’m hearing off this site that this ATV runs pretty hot? Also looks like acs has been disconnected and I’m seeing a set of 4 piggy back Elka shocks which a couple people from this site said should be a bonus and a step up from stock suspension, just not sure what stage they are! I’ll add a picture of them just in case anyone might have the same ones! Great forum lots of good reads, see ya on the trails!:-)

Limp mode question.

So my 2017 Can am went to limp mode when I was idling in water that was just to the bottom of the exhaust tip. No deeper and it wasn’t under water. Any ideas?

12×7 (5+2) wheels needed

any one know where i can find some 12x7 (5+2) wheels? i went to order some Quadboss wheels which are available with this offset, only to find they had done some sort of massive recoil and were reworking the wheel.

i have a Polaris 2018 Ace 570 and im looking to replace the factory wheels without increasing my width.

thank you

Direction2 overfenders

D2 hit a homerun on the xp overfenders! Fast shipping, perfect fit, clear and simple instructions, easy install, plenty of quality hardware and they look WAY better than the OEM's with lots of coverage for the stock and wider tires. For the quality, fit and finish they're actually pretty reasonably priced too.
Way to go D2! :fing02:

Front axle stuck sportsman 500ho

I have got a polaris sportsman 500ho. Other forum members told me i have either a 2004 or 2004.5 year. I have tried almost everything to try to get my front axle out. in my previous thread i tried using a slide hammer and i tried using my truck to pull it off but to no avail. So i opened the front case and i found a small hole where i think the end of the male end spline shaft of the axle is. I tried putting in a socket extension in the hole and hitting the other end with a hammer, i have also tried using a hammer and chisel on the outside in the gap between the u joint and the case. Still nothing. I cut off the u joint because i was getting ready to drill the shaft out. So i need to know what other options i have to get it out.

Hot Shock Reservoir

I just picked up my 2018 outlander xtp 1000 the other day,,only put a few miles on it so far. I noticed after riding the reservoir on the left side shock next to the exhaust was HOT,,not warm,,HOT. I was thinking this can’t be a good thing,,is it no big deal? I dunno,,I don’t see how it could be an “OK” thing,,perhaps I’m wrong. Other side felt very normal temp wise.
