New to forum. New Defender 10 with Apache tracks.

Hi all,

New to everything here. I have always been a Polaris guy for sleds and ATV's but wrenching on them every year brought me to your side for this purchase.

Picked up a 2018 Defender Max 10 and the Apache 360 LT tracks (and a 3" lift) new from my dealer in Utah last month. My wife was already tired of getting to the cabin in the winter on a sled and a new baby addition mandated something a bit safer/comfier/warmer. I do a lot of mineral exploration work during the summer so somehow, someway, I rationalized purchasing this. It's my first new vehicle purchase, ever. It wasn't cheap.

Requisite photo attached of her up at 9000 feet here in Utah a few weeks ago.

My first observations are that this thing is great in the snow as long as it's not untracked. No way I would take this thing into the 5+ feet of unpacked powder we have otherwise I"ll be winching/digging for a few hours. It's a great people mover but not a powder vehicle.

Two questions for you folks, as while my dealer is great they're not the best at questions sometimes.

1) When switching from reverse to "H" and back again sometimes I get a whirring sound coming from engine bay when hitting the gas. I'll back off the pedal for a few seconds, then try again and it'll work perfect. It feels/sounds like the tranny is trying to engage but doesn't get it on the first go around. Is this common?

2) With the tracks this thing is a heavy beast. I'm guessing most of you guys run this thing on "L" when on tracks with a few guys inside? Manual says to use "L" whenever 800+ pounds are getting hauled but I'm guessing that's with the wheels/tires...so just using tracks and one guy probably gets me 90% of the way there.

Overall very impressed, this will be a great field/hunting/cabin/XC skiing grooming rig and the neighbors are already asking to take her for spins.

Thanks

Thoughts on Plows?

I'm half-seriously toying with the idea of investing in a plow, including winch and all hardware. For you guys that own one, do you have a Polaris plow and if so, what're your thoughts on it? Worth the considerable investment?

Argo Guys…..

I looked around for the correct place to put this , but didn't see an "other ATV" section so I'll post my question here .

You guys into the Argos , my friend has an Argo 6 X 6 and said they recently started making 4-wheelers .
I was just wondering if this is true ?
If so :
Do they have their own plant ?
Are they paired up with another manufacturer ?
Any other info you may be able to give .

Thank You !

2011/2012 800 XMR Tips

Hey guys,

I'm located in Calgary and just purchased a 2012 800 XMR for a steal of a deal (2000km ~$5500). I was wondering if you could give me any advice on mechanical quirks, things to look out for anything else that will help me out on the day to day stuff.
I'm also looking for info on any vendors that carry OEM and custom parts that are local to or ship to Calgary. I'm not going to go overboard but would like to do a few little things to make it my own.
Overall the quad is in immaculate condition and the only signs of wear are on the seat (which I may look for a cover for).
Anyway - I look forward to being a part of this group and appreciate any info you guys can pass along!

New guy, old man

Hello there in CanAm world! Old Bama boy that gets to fix everyone's ATV so they can play and be happy. I'm a street cruiser rider foremost, owning 2 Suzuki Intruders, a 00 800 and a 03 1400 (sat over 4 years because no one could figure it out, gave 250.00 for it, costed 12.00 to fix). My current plight is a 10 Outlander 800 that won't spin over. Display scrolls a name (Pete Mallory) then, then MAINTENANCE REQUIRED, then to ODO. W/park brake on, hit START and CEL blinks and display scrolls CHECK ENGINE, PARK BRAKE, and before battery swap it displayed DPS (I don't believe it was MIN/MAX). Can any veterans that know these beasts well link me to an Operator's Manual and possibly a flow chart for the starting problem, or better yet just pull it out of your pocket.
Much obliged in advance for any good info you will share...

01 Polaris 500 HO only runs with starter fluid

So my kid tipped over this Sportsman in a creek. It was probably in there for 20 minutes. The air filter was all wet so I replaced that. Now it only runs while I am spraying starter fluid in. Does that mean the fuel pump is bad? Or the carburetor? Or maybe water in the gas? Any way to easily tell?

Also, when I started it up it spit a bunch of water out by the variable transmission. Someone told me there may also be a plug or something I could open that may drain more water out? Thanks, any help would be appreciated.
