It this normal?

So doing my inspection on the quad today and see this. Is the gap between the metal plate and diff normal? I lightly tapped it back with a hammer and it slid right over. Quad is only a rear old, axle is nice and tight. Just this cap moved. Any ideas? What is used to keep this in place? Do i just have to check it every so often? TIA

2018 Outlander 850 XMR

Hey I’m real close to purchasing a 2018 xmr it will be my first new arc in years. I’m leaning more towards the 850 because of the short wheel base.... who on here has experience with the 2018s? What are some things I should know before making purchase... what separates them from the 1000s? Is it true the 1000 has a better transmission? How are the new ITP tires compared to the old style? I’ve also heard they have issues with the rear differentials breaking because of bad seals. And Yes I will mostly be using this atv at off road parks and mud events.

Dual Rate Springs – What Gives?

Anyone running Dual Rate springs on otherwise stock shocks?
I see a few companies out there offering DR springs, but they are just shy of the cost of a complete set of Elka Stage 1 shocks...
I’d give them a shot, but not at $800!!!
I mean are these people nuts?
Are people really buying 8 springs and a couple $4 parts for $800?
Curious what the community thinks of them or if after install they felt as though the shock still needed valved?
I just don’t see the springs as a complete fix or solution and am thinking even after spring install one would end up another $800-$1000 in shock work putting you right into a decent setup from Elka or others.
Thoughts?

2000 Magnum 500 starter switch connector

I’ll start with my problem and question then give a little backstory. One of the connectors going into the starter switch melted and isn’t making a good connection, causing it to melt more. What problems would I have if I bypassed the starter switch with ONLY the r/w wire? It powers the fan switch, brake lamp switch, hot temp lamp/switch, speedo (doesn’t work), starter solenoid. There’s a resistor and diode in the switch that powers the r/w wire. Obviously it’s there for a reason. If it wasn’t then I wouldn’t think twice about bypassing the switch.

Back story.. I bought the atv a couple months ago knowing the 4x4 wasn’t working. After getting into it I found that wasn’t the only thing wrong with it. There were so many electrical issues. After doing a TON of research on these forums and memorizing the wiring diagram front to back, I determined that the previous owner had ran the atv without a battery. Apparently this causes the charging system to go haywire and fries everything. Literally every bulb and sensitive electronic (besisedes the cdi) was fried.

I got to work and replaced the regulator, starter switch, battery, breaker, and all the bulbs. Everything besides the speedo.. way too expensive.. so I just bypassed it to get the 4x4 and over drive working. Once I got all the electrical issues solved it was running like a champ! But when everything got fried the starter switch connector got melted and has been giving me issues. It’s only the r/w pin that’s melted but that controls a lot of things. I’ve looked at just replacing the connector but I have to buy the entire harness which is over $100.. not worth it. So.. would it be a bad idea to bypass the switch and ultimately the resistor and diode? If so what other options would you suggest? Inline resistor? A fuse?

Sorry for the long post!

08 sportsman 500 Efi motor knock ? * Video *

I have an 08 Sportsman 500 that starts right up but motor knocks like this? It seems slightly louder when the machine is cold vs when it is warm, but when I get on the throttle and drive it it doesn’t seem to get any louder, if anything maybe quieter? Hard to tell. Check out the videos. Thanks! It has 4400 miles. First video Is cold start, and yes the motor killed at the end.. I didn’t shut it off, second driving, third, start when warm.
