1994 Polaris 300 Xplorer 4×4 Worth Keeping?

Hi All,

Brand new here, and first time quad owner. I took a gamble on this one for $200, hoping it wouldn't be too much of a project, but knowing at that price I could resell for twice that much if so.

I bought it all in one piece, with all the plastics, but it has turned out to be more of a project than hoped. Looks like someone drove it into the ground, tried to do some work on it but didn't know what they were doing, and put it back together again. List of what I see wrong with it SO FAR:

Got it running but won't stay running - comp checked out at 90 PSI

- needs top and bottom engine rebuild (play in con. rod bearings/piston and cylinder all scored up)
- tranny hard to shift into one of the forward gears (others OK) metallic sludge on dipstick, fluid red but foamy
- needs electrical work (no power to gear lights or headlight, finding random wires disconnected)
- rear brake totally shot, fronts are weak
- both CV boots ripped
- front left lower control arm needs to be replaced (someone broke it and tried to weld)
- seat all slashed up
- brake handle broken off
- missing front rack
- missing battery
- fuel shut off leaking
- snorkel boots need replacing
- air filter box has a big chunk taken out of (how?)
- tires dry rotting
- regular engine oil in the oil reservoir (no idea if the oil injection system works)
- engine only mounted to one of the two mounts (again, how?)
- Unknown as to what else might be wrong with it as I couldn't keep it running to try things out

Overall just one beat up machine the more I tear into it. I didn't think you could abuse a quad that bad and have the machine look decent from the outside.

So the question is, with $200 sunk into it, and now all apart, is it worth keeping and fixing up, or should I just sell it? I wasn't prepared to spend a lot of time on this, but am willing to do the work myself and make it a long term project if worth it. At the same time, if I can get $400 for it, and then spend another $400 - can I get an equivalent machine but running, or needing a little bit of work for $800?

Thanks for the feedback!

550XP EPS touring with 4600 miles…worth considering?

A fella down the road has a 2014 550XP EPS touring with 4600 miles on it. That is a lot more miles than I like, but I figure it means it does not have the dreaded valve issue right? He used it for scouting fields in an ag business.

Should I be scared of it? What would be a fair price?

Replacing Headgasket

Hi Everyone. A friend of mine has a 1999 Sportsman 500 that has Antifreeze bubbling out of the overflow tank. I have validated the fan is working, the waterpump is working and I have bled it several times. Small bubbles are coming out of the radiator cap.

I am planning to replace the headgasket and check the head for cracks. My questions are the following:

1. The manual says you do not have to remove the engine to pull the head, but wanted to confirm this is easy to do or would it be a lot easier to remove the engine?
2. I assume I should replace the base gasket too, but would love to hear what everyone thinks.

Thanks
Rob

Steering stem squeaking creeking

2016 xxx 1000
Steering to the left or right when not moving and possibly when moving has a loud squeaking creeking. Is there an area to lube ?
Is this normal? Sounds horrible

LSR A-Arms

I purchased some LONESTAR DC-4 Long Travel A-Arms for my 2008 Polaris Outlaw from ATVGALAXY.com

They were shipped to me directly from LSR with the right part number and the description said DC-4 LONG TRAVEL

They look like the sport arms to me... Can anyone with LSR A ARMS confirm which arms these are? Shouldn't they have a cross member brace up near the mounts of the lower arm? and also I didn't think the lower shock mounts on the DC-4 arms were a tab style like these...

I called LSR and apparently they know nothing about the arms they manufacture for the Outlaw...

Pictures below, Thanks guys!

Anyone know if the carb holder for a 96 400L will fit a 95 400L?

How do I manually turn engine on 2004 sportsman 7700Manuall

Neighbor boy has disassembled his sportsman 700 and removed the head and cylinder with the engine still in the frame. The pistons are not fully exposed out of the crankcase. He has asked me for help. I saw a youtube video with the cylinder removed and the pistons exposed. The mechanic removed the pistons, put them in the cylinder and then replaced the cylinder on the case. But he had the engine out of the frame. Do we have to remove the engine? Can the crank be manually positioned to lift the pistons so we can get the cylinder back on? If yes, how do we do that?

The cylinder looks good no scoring. The rings look good. What is the best way to get this thing back together? Would really appreciate your help.

1024 Sportsman 850 Tires! Tires?? Ummm Tires????

Newer owner to a 2014 Polaris Sportsman 850 H.O. E.P.S

Need mud tires. I really like the Intimidator tires but they only come in sizes that wont really work. The stock tires are 26x8x14 Front 26x10x14 Rear. Do I have to have the same size aftermarket tires? Nothing cool comes in those sizes. LAME

What about clearance issues?

What can I get away with?

What is going to be the best option not messing with gear ratios or none of that junk? Just mount and ride.
