2005 Phoenix – tips for determining cause of blown CDI?

Hi, my son has an '05 Phoenix (200), we had a problem mid summer with backfiring and idle issues which disappeared when we turned the headlight on. Assumed there was therefore an issue with the voltage regular. Replaced the regulator and it ran great (without the headlight on ;) ) for about a month, then with no warning the CDI box exploded.
So.... any recommendations on what to do next?
(I'm hesitant to install a new CDI without doing anything else, as I wouldn't want to blow up another one at $100+/ea. )
I've seen similar threads after searching the forums but I haven't found any real solutions / verdicts that were posted.
Thanks in advance.

Help to identify

Hi
second thread .
did look on youtube and google and starting to get familiar with things but I drained oil from the bottom of my engine right beside the drive shaft as I'm draining all fluids and putting new as I don't know last time it was done from previous owners.
front difs ,tranny and rear found and identified no problem but what did I drain , am I having a brain fart ?
I downloaded the owners manual and it says nothing of the oil plug that I drained and nothing of the attatched photo , it looks like the nut is a fill spot for clutch oil ? or something. my bikes were never like this and I must just not be seeing the simple answer
2006 polaris sportsman 500 efi.
so what oil drain plug was this and is the photo of a fill plug. Right side of engine close to pull start.
thanks
Glenn

HELP!!! Please! 2014 Polaris sportsman 850

Hate being that guy that joins and the first thing he does is ask for help, but I'm about to loose it on this machine...
I recently bought a 2014 Polaris sportsman 850 XP HO. I was not having any problems with it until I was riding one night and went to start it and all I heard was the starter tapping the flywheel. I assumed it was the battery because I was able to jump it. I ended up buying another battery because the problem continued. The new battery worked well until I had the same issue again a week later, I then assumed it was the starter so I bought a new starter..

Well last weekend after riding around for a about an hour, I turned off the machine and had the same issue when trying to turn it back on. I was able to use my jump box to start the machine but after it was running a red light and the battery symbol came on. I was able to get it on the trailer and head home. Once I got it home not even the jump box would get it to crank. I was able to push it in the garage and left it on the tricle charger all night. This morning I tried to start it, and no luck. Just the sound of the starter tapping the fly wheel but now the red light is no longer red it is flashing yellow.

It's safe to say I have no clue what is going on with this thing!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

1997 Polaris sportsman 500 engine locked up please help

I had a 97 Polaris sportsman 500 given to me by my grandfather the other day, it has been sitting for a few years, but the problem is, someone hit a tree stump while riding it a few years ago and it messed up the front left side, all of that got fixed a few years ago new strut, new a arms and everything was straightened out, after my grandad fixed all of that he tried to crank the motor up and he said it cranked up for a minute and cut right back off and he couldn't get it to turn over again, so a while back I was over there and I tried to crank it with the pull cord and it won't move at all, I put a battery in it and it wouldn't do anything, I pulled the starter and it is good, pulled the cover off the belt, all of that looks good, pulled valve cover and that looks good, I'm just trying to figure out if i need to pull the motor out and start tearing it apart or where I need to start here, any help would be greatly appreciated
