I brought out my 2004 Sportsman on her maiden run this past weekend and when on a straightaway, especially on asphalt, the front end sways like crazy (almost a death wobble but controllable). I finally inspected the front end and there is excessive play in all the tie rod ends.
My local Polaris dealer $72.99 per tie rod end, so $291.96!
I found on Amazon, an upgrade kit that consists of 12mm rods (instead of the 10mm OEM rods) and 4 tie rod ends, along with all the hardware for $148.99 with free shipping. Its basically 1/2 price for an AllBalls upgrade and all new parts.
Question, does anyone see a problem with this?
Anything wrong going a bit thicker (no negative effects)?
Do the tie rods themselves ever get bent or damaged, other than hitting rocks I guess?
I think I will order this as the first step.
Once everything is apart I will have a better look at all the bushings. What else can contribute to high speed steering wobble (left to right to left... increasing with speed and traction).
