OK guys,
I have a pressured AND leaking antifreeze reservoir. I do believe I have the same issue as a guy that posted 2 years ago ("1999 sportsman 500 coolant reservoir filling up"). I would like some of the experienced guys in this area to hopefully reply to some of the questions below.
PLEASE KNOW that I did notice this a few rides back but I don't believe it leaked or if it did, it tried up to look like it didn't leak. But I have not driven hours upon hours since I noticed it, it's more like take it to deer lease, but a few miles on it at a time. Shut it off several hours... sort of like morning work around and evening work around and the rest is just setting.
I plan on diving in tearing the top end apart and removing the head and checking things.
Now:
Question 1: Does anyone know how to check if it is in the oil? Other than the obvious, Drain it see if it looks thin...
Question 2: What else should I be looking for when i tear the top end down?
Question 3: Being this thing is a good 22 years old, should I replace the water pump/thermostat etc?
Question 4: I read the post mentioned above that the coolant can cause major issue in the cylinder?.? Can someone with experience speak to that and explain that to me in a Do It Yourself verbiage? hehehe.
I'm going into this COMPLETELY learning as I go. So ANY information will not be wasted. i'm not afraid to pull apart a 4 wheeler at all but aside from pulling the head, replacing gasket and head, i'm not familiar on the 'dos and donts' on atv top end work.
