I just rebuilt my 2004 Polaris (see my other thread that I just posted).

I have a battery problem? I just replaced the three year old wet battery, with a new gel battery.

I came home tonight and started my bike to see how it's working on a cold start, like I would on a cold morning deer season start. And to just let it idle, to get it warmed up.

It was having a hard time staying idle and the battery symbol kept flashing on the screen. The orange needle indicator was also flashing.

Would this be a charging or battery issue?

My original post was for a service manual (which I am still looking for), but I figured I would just ask here for a little help for suggestions and possible solutions.

I have attached a couple of pics of what it now looks like.

About to pull the trigger on a 2019 LTD.

Not a fan of the standard ITP's it comes with and I have a spare set of brand new STI beadlocks purchased for my G1. Will they fit without modifications?

A search has thrown up a world of mixed views and arguements about the standard offsets so thought I would ask a specific question for mine.


Ive not idea what the offset is on a new 2019 ltd. The STI size and offset is the following 12x7 (4/137) and shows an offset of 5+2 and in brackets next to the offset (+10mm).


They fit on a 2011 XMR outlander I know that.

Just really enjoy this Sport/Hobby. One of the things my wife and I can do that she actually enjoys. I think that we finally landed where we want to be as far as machines go. We started out with a Honda Rancher then picked up an '98 Kawasaki Prairie 400 that only had 284 miles on it. That thing ran like a top, not sure what the guys story was who owned it he just never rode it, had it stored outside under a tarp. I put a new battery in it, pulled the plastics off of it and cleaned and polished them up, conditioned all of the black plastic, repainted the wheels, and whatever else needed it and rode it. It had a little Warn #2000 winch on it and a cycle country plow, I turned around and sold it for $1000 more than I paid for it and bought a Grizzly 400. The Kawasaki was full time 4 wheel drive and I just didn't like the way it steered, the guy that bought it was tickled. The Grizzly was great as well it was an '08 with 234 miles on it. problem with it was had a plugged fuel filter, crap in the carburetor bowl, and rotting seals on the petcock. fuel filter was attached to the petcock so just replaced it and put a carburetor kit in it. That was after being towed out of the mountains by friend. For some reason my wife didn't like it and thought we should get another Rancher, so we did. Great running machines, very dependable, no issues whatsoever, other than not very comfortable to ride double on, even with a nice retrofitted Can Am 2-up seat. No independent rear suspension, friends were always waiting on us because I wasn't going to beat my wife or the machine up. Finally settled on a couple of Can Am's. I was able to score a killer deal on both of them. One was a 2018 with only 39 miles in Boise Idaho and the guy brought it all the way to me in Montana, over 500 miles. The other a 2016 2-up with only 435 miles, that one I had to go get, so far we have enjoyed them both. The 2018 for my wife when we each ride and the 2-up for riding double so we can be legal. Set The Stage: Thank you for taking some time to read this. This weekend I'm going to look at a 2017 Sportsman 850 SP and a 2016 XMR 1000. The XMR has about 350 miles, and doesn't appear to have been swamped. I've done a TON of research on the XMR 1000, and watched every video available on Youtube.

History: I've had a couple sport quads so those don't count, but more recently had a 2016 Polaris Highlifter 850, and just sold my 2014 Polaris 570 EPS. I loved the "go anywhere feeling" of the Highlifter, but HATED the rock hard suspension (mine also had a 2" lift), and it had a horrendous turning radius with no power steering.

How I Ride: 50% winter riding, mostly lake and deep snow. 25% plowing my driveway and playing in the snow a little. 25% spring and fall ditch riding. 25% trail riding (a lot of technical and on-trail mud - I don't look for mud holes).

Questions: The honest truth guys, is that there are SO many negative reviews and posts on the Can Am's, 1000's in general that I'm almost afraid of the bike! Are these XMR's really that bad? Should I steer clear of them? Does anyone have real world experience driving a Highlifter VS XMR 1000 (that would be amazing to hear)? I realize it's a mud bike, but does it soak up any bumps at all? How about the steering....is it a ridiculously huge turning radius? Knowing my background and riding, would you have any recommendations? Can it be somewhat enjoyable for trail riding? Or is it just too huge and obnoxious for a slightly aggressive trail/ditch ride?

What is the difference in a 2016 and 2018 highlifter edition.?

I’m no mechanic and have a dumb question. I did an oil change on my atv tonight. When refilling with new oil, I poured the oil into the opening at the top of the motor, which has a cap with an oil logo. I then couldn’t get any reading on the dipstick. Did I make a major mistake? Or will the oil settle thru the motor? Thank you for any help.

Does anyone know how to test the cdi box on a 2002 sportsman 700. The atv starts fine and idles fine but as you accelerate it will bog down as if running out of gas. I have replaced fuel pump, fuel filter ,rebuilt carb, new plugs ,compression is 160 psi both cylinders.
