Bought a non-running 96 xplorer 300. Had the head sleeved back to stock size, new wsm piston, rings, and gaskets. Put it together and started it. Erratic idle, bogging under throttle, and backfire when letting off the throttle. Then i changed crank seals, same thing, rebuilt the carb, same thing. Took the plug out of exhaust and a bunch of black pebbles came out, still runs the same with the plug out and I'm out 3 of ideas. Any suggestions. Thanks.

So the other day I was using the winch and plow on the 4 Wheeler. It's started to overheat out of nowhere which turns out to be a radiator leak that I will do with at another time.

I want to go started after it cooled off, and it will not start.


Thought it was battery swapped out battery not the battery.


The Relay is fine. Power to it, 12 volts , hear it working, all that jazz.

Power to the starter, 12 volts. Checked the solenoid wire...like 20 miliamps.

No secondary solenoid switch whatsoever.

Cleaned all connections.

What is the deal?

Whelp,,,I can’t find a thing on-line no MATTER how I word it,& nothing here,,it’s covered im sure,,somewhere. How do you get the play out of your thumb throttle? My dealer did it once but it’s since gotten a little loose again. You do it from up @ the handlebars or do you have to adjust something down by the throttle bodie? If the weather settles down the plow will get some work today. My office actually closed this morning for this spring storm. Getting occasional snow rates of 2" per hour, and winds topping 80+ mph. So far the power hasn't gone out, but expecting it to do so any time. Should be fun if things calm down a little.

I've searched and haven't found anything. My kid (11) recently got into four wheelers (his buddy has one) and I came across a 400 Sport for a great deal. This thing is great and has a ton of top end power...too much power for him while he is still learning to ride.

Are there any ways to reduce the power or limit the rpm range?

I posted about this in my original introduction thread. 90% of my issues are resolved on the new quad as of today...BUT, the rough idle still remains. First and foremost we're talking about a 2013 Sportsman 850 XP HO EPS. When you first start it up, you have to give it a bit of gas for it to fire, and you have to hold on that gas for a bit (maybe 30 seconds or so), and then slowly ease off of it. Once you've done that it'll idle on it's own but it's a rough idle, and it smells VERY rich. Give it a few minutes, and then it purrs like a kitten right at 1250 RPM. Any ideas where to start?

I'm trying to turn the adjustment height on the preload for my low end/factory shocks but I cannot for the life of me turn them.
I've tried putting some penetrating lubricant on the area and jacking up the quad.

Is this a common thing? How do other people get them to unseize?

They are set to full firmness which makes the quad feel quite high with an awkward center of gravity.

I’ve decided to get some new tires for my 06 sportsman 700. I went with a set of Kenda executioners, 27/10/12 in the front and 27/12/12 in the rear. I’m positive that the back tires will clear but I’m not sure about the fronts. This is because the stock tire is 26/8/12 and they sit pretty close (maybe a little more than and inch) to the shock tower. Do you think I would need to run a small spacer in the front?

so been going to penrose a lot..not on my quad but on my bike. In case you guys are interested trails have been very clear. I went to Texas creek, but unable to go towards tabletop, but I am going try again with my quad if my buddy wants to go this thursday and ill report the conditions. even after this snow storm, I am pretty sure it will be clear by tomorrow.

Still running oem 2013 battery with 6500 km on odometer and 7th riding season coming up next month.
I pull the battery each Winter and bring it in from "frozen" garage but don't trickle charge..just do a day and overnite charge before first ride.
Anyone else still on a 7 yr oem battery ?
Just ordered a new one from Chrome Battery online for $59.99, w 18 mo warranty..just in case..
