1995 Trail Boss issues/problems/questions

Hey!

New to the board, but not new to the Polaris scene. Used to ride old 250's and 400's back about 20 years ago, and just recently picked up a 95 Trail Boss in extremely good condition ($700!). It runs and rides great, but it does need a tuneup. The PO said he always premixed gas AND used the oil injection system. He attributed the massive amount of smoke, plenty of oil residue coming out the exhaust tip, and boggy performance at slow speeds until you blew the cobwebs out of it, then it'd run better. So, rebuilding the carb is #1 on my list. Anything else I should look at or clean up while im in the process of going through this machine?

Also, the shift linkage has some play in it. It has the standard H-N-R shifter setup, and goes into R just fine. However, I have to push the lever past H to actually get it to go into High gear. And, it goes into gear easier when the engine has revved a little bit (doesn't want to go into gear very well at idle, even pushing the lever past H). Is this just a simple adjustment of the shifter linkage, or do I need to be looking at something else that may be worn?

Already have new tires on order (this will be a crop scouting quad, so more puncture resistant tires are needed), new bushings for the rear shock, and some AGL to replace the tranny fluid that's probably 20+ years old.

OH! And can anyone tell me the color number for the Teal color on the racks? I would love to repaint both of them to match.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get!!

Noisy front differential?

Was watching a video of a 800EFI Sportsman and his front differential sounded somewhat clunky as does mine at times. Is the front differential normally noisey on a 2006 800EFI Sportsman or what should I be looking for? This is in two wheel drive, I haven't had an opportunity or need to use in AWD.

96 Xplorer 300 Won’t Start

Forum Users,

I have 1 96 Xplorer 300 I bought for my lady last year, and fixed up. I was taking it out for a spin to see how it Ran with the air filter cleaned out. The ATV has a new CDI Box, Coil, Plug, fresh carb rebuild, and fresh top end rebuild. It was running well. Then all of a sudden it started choking out, and died. I have been unable to restart it with or without the air filter. I have used starting fluid, to no avail. It is out in the middle of the woods. I plan to go back tomorrow to take out the plug and see if it needs to be cleaned out. Any other ideas of what it could be if not the plug? I might as well be thinking about it coming up with solutions while waiting to go work on it some more. Thank you guys appreciate the input. I'll also plan to take a spark tester, jumper cables, and a compression tester out there. I just hope that the new rings aren't damaged.

What is ACS on a 2017/18/19 Outlander or Renegade?

Was checking out new machines at the dealership trying them on for size. 2019 Renegade 850 base next to the reverse over ride button says DPS. However on the 19 Outlander 650xt and 19 Renegade 570 XMR it says ACS/DPS.

So I ask my riding buddies, I have a 2017 outlander 570 xmr, he has a 2017 outlander 650 XMR and the other a 16 outlander 1000xmr. Mine says just DPS, his says ACS/DPS. I know it use to mean air suspension but I thought they did away with that? And I know for a fact the 570 and 650 have the same shocks and springs, and no air suspension. So, what does ACS mean?

Pic for posterity.

Elka Stage 3s Preload/Sag questions

Getting Elka Stage 3s for the 850 XT.

First thing will be adjusting the sag.
I know when sitting on it it should be around 30% sag.
But 30% of what?
30% of ground clearance to the frame?
30% of the ATV height without the rider? And if so, measured from where?
30% of the shock total travel? And if so, how do I know the total travel?

Thanks.

2018 Defender XMR

I have a Defender XMR

Changing the gear case it calls for 1.5 liters of 75-140

I put that in and it doesn’t register on the yellow dipstick where it should. I measured and know I got it all in there.

Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks
Sam

Good place to buy a slightly used ATV?

Hey everyone.

I am trying to find my first Can-am to purchase, but it is proving to be harder than I originally thought to find something to spend my money on. haha. Not the usual problem.

I am looking in that range of a year to a few years old, with low miles/taken care of. I don't want to pay brand new price when I am fine with slightly used. Looking for a Renegade XXC or XMR 1000. I can't even come close to finding something on CL or eBay. Are there certain places I should be looking? My dealer only has one used ATV currently, and they're the only dealer for 100 miles.

Any help would be appreciated!
