Banging and clunking on front end!

So I? took a quick little ride on the trails today and kept hearing banging coming from the front end. I? took I?t in the garage so see if I? noticed anything loose. I? did pull up and down on front end and noise kept happening when I? pulled up. Looks like it?s the springs. What?s the best way to fix or replace??

1999 Sportsman 335

I’m new here so hello to everyone.

I’m always snooping around looking for a good deal. I’m pretty mechanically inclined and enjoy tinkering..my last challenge was rebuilding the 268 4.2 in my 82 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler. It actually went pretty well.

Anyway, ran across a CL listing for a 1999 Sportsman 335. It is really clean looking but is currently not running. It’s a one owner, the owner is telling me that it ran up until a few weeks ago. The prior 6 months he had to start it using “starting fluid” but now it will not start at all. He thinks the rings are shot along with low compression caused by the use of the starting. Other than that he says everything else works fine, front the pics you can tell it has been taken care of. From what he told me he just parked it and went out and bought a new one.

I’m not an atv mechanic but as mentioned do luck tinkering. I can pick it up for $450 which sounds reasonable.

Anyone care to share their thoughts on it? What may be wrong with it? Buy or don’t buy?? Stay the heck away from it?

Thanks

Belt or CVT problem

2016 outlander 570- 240 miles. On 3rd. belt trying to figure what the whistling noise is at low speeds (4-8 mph), keep thinking its the belt but sick of buying them. I've never blown a belt, and never seen mud and now the 3rd belt I'm trying is made is for a bigger machine. Every time I changed a belt the noise was gone for about 15 miles and then started up again. Seems to make the noise when its warmed up. I've heard this is a common noise but I don't think it common to hear it through the woods 100 yards away whistling away. I've heard switching away from OEM belts and try after market, and also have heard this isn't common also. Any suggestions if its belt, CVT, or crappy design everyone says to just live with it?

Can of worms or snakes?

I recently took a 2005 Sportsman 500 HO (with 700 plastics???) on a trade and need some advice as to whether or not you guys think it's worth spending money to get it right or just part it out. After an inspection this is what I know so far:

Hot light flashes even when cold. I'm thinking this is just a bad temp sensor. Will try to test it in boiling water soon.

Speedo doesn't work but AWD indicator comes on and gear indicator works (pretty sure the speed sensor wire is ripped out)

Loose shifter with no clear gear selection, maybe the spring for the shift linkage is broken?

Runs but smokes. Going to start with a carb rebuild kit before I spend money on a top end kit.

AWD won't engage, missing one CV, the diff seems okay, but likely needs a seal kit, going to try a speedo bypass to see if I can get it to engage

Brakes...NONE. I have no idea what the previous owner used it for other than just beating the crap out of it because the brakes are gone. What's left of the rear caliper is in the rear storage box. The front calipers are there, but the master cylinder is pretty corroded and the cap is missing.

Overall I think that it's a good starting point that just needs some love. It has 2662 miles and around 240 hours, so I don't think it's beyond saving but would appreciate any opinions. I mainly traded because of the parts that are on it:

Wild Boar radiator relocation kit
HMF Swamp exhaust
Warn 3.0 winch
MSA M20 Kore 14" wheels
29.5" Terminator tires w/ about half tread

Yay or nay?

Gear Indicator Lights

Hello - I just purchased a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. and love it. I did notice that the Low gear indicator light does not turn on when in Low gear. The N and R both work fine, the gears work fine and the AWD works fine. So, everything seems to work perfect but the Low gear indicator light just doesn't light up. Is this something I should worry about? Does the 2002 even have that light available? Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks!
