Hello all… ATV newbie here!

In the pre-purchase stage of getting our first ATV(s)...
Bought a second home in the Black Hills of SD (live in SE Florida) spending half our time in each. Wife and I both ride Harleys which is actually bought us here for the summers. When I purchased this property (in SD) I also bought a nice Jeep Wrangler for my every-day vehicle and to explore a little. Well, at least half our neighbors have ATV's of some sort... We don't live IN the woods, but near enough.. I got the Jeep out twice this summer in events, a local 2 day event and the Jeep Jamboree event. With the new home construction, visitors, and riding (motorcycles) not much time was left.
SO....
Yesterday, I'm sitting in my (home) office minding my own business, a guy shows up at my door on a 500 Sportsman, truck and trailer with a Bobcat sitting in the street. He wants to know if I'd be interested in having 5 stumps removed in my yard, made me a deal I couldn't refuse. Half hour later he's done! Anyway, asked if they could leave the rig overnite in my back drive. Wife is eyeing the Sportsman, they give her the key and off she went.. So, here I am today with Craigslist open, doing my due-diligence. I'm looking at pairs of used Polaris 500's for sale mainly, and I am also interested in a 03 Trailboss 335 4x2 for sale for $1200, thinking it would be a great way to get our feet wet. We leave for Florida end of the month, so there is no pressing need to buy them now, but $1200 is, well painless...

My dilemma is really between buying a Sportsman or an ACE. I think we would both feel more secure in the Ace, going to go to a dealer and sit, maybe go to a rental place and try a pair for the day..

Outlander 450 Winch Options

Can anyone suggest an affordable aftermarket winch for my 2017 outlander 450? I can't see spending $375-$600 for the Winches on the Can Am Accessory site. I just need something to lift a plow the 2 or 3 times I may have to plow my driveway each year and to get me unstuck should I ever get stuck - which is extremely rare. Doesn't make sense to spend a fortune on something that I may only need a few times a year. I see aftermarket winches in the $100-$250 range for other makes and models. Not sure if the 450 is just too new to be listed on some sites yet or not, but I want to be able to order a winch and mounting plate I know will match exactly. I'm not into "fabrication".

I've gone on Rocky Mountain ATV - they don't even have the Can AM outlander 450 as an option on their site yet and nothing close seems to be an exact match. Dennis Kirk has the Outlander 450 that I can add to my profile, but when I search exact match aftermarket winches I get nothing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

2002 Sportsman 700 loose Axle

Hello folks,

My well maintained 700 has a clunk with every bump now in the front end. When I investigated,
I found the U-joint attachment to the front diff very loose. 1/2-1 inch of play when lifted up and down on both sides!. The play in in the differential attachment, not the U-joint. Drives like a dream, but way too loose.
What might this be and is this an easy fix??

Thank you in advance

BB

Wheels

I have a 2002 sportsman 500 HO and I what to change my rear wheels from 10 inch to 12 inch. What is involved in doing so, will it affect the running gear etc.?
