98 and older sportsman 500s

Hey guys. Looking at trading my 09 dragon 800 sled for a couple quads. Buddy is offering a 2000 Honda ex400 (I'd sell) and a sportsman 500. He said it's a 2000 but looking at pics online it looks like it would be 98 or older as it has an analogue tach. At any rate it's only got 800 miles on it and he says it runs great. I was kinda hoping to get something a bit newer. I guess my main question is are these still worth getting and how much better are the newer ones over the older ones? This will be my first quad but my father has a 08 (I believe) sportsman which I think is also a 500 I've ridden a bunch of times. Anything I should look out for when making the trade or should I just hold out for something more modern? Mainly looking for something reliable that I can rip on trails with friends, 2up with the gf and I'd like to put a plow on it for winter as I can contract through my work for like $90 an hour when it snows! Reliability is the main thing but I also don't want it to be crazy low on power. All my friends ride 660s and higher, am I going to be able to keep up?

Used outlander

Hello all, I'm sure something similar to this has been posted, but I couldn't find something exactly like what I'm looking for. If there is something please redirect me.

Anyways, I'm looking to get a used ATV for around $5,500, could go a little more. I've seen some 2013 - 2014 Outlander 1000 xt's for right around that price with around 2k miles on them. Is that too many miles? I haven't seen any, but I assume I can get an 850 xt with around 1k miles for the same price. I'm planning on doing mostly trail riding here in Massachusetts and may eventually throw a plow on the machine. I don't plan on beating on this machine at all and am hoping for something that will get me close to 5k miles with regular maintenance. I've been told I should be looking at a 2014 Grizzly 700 with 500-1000 miles, but figured I'd come here for some suggestions. I know the Outlanders power will be much stronger than the grizzly's, but from what I've read the grizzly's require very little maintenance. Will the extra power be worth the extra maintenance? If I did go with the Outlander how much should I expect to pay yearly to maintain the thing? $250? $500? I'm coming from a 2 stroke dirt bike that cost me $100-$200 a year to maintain.

Any advice/suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

2001 DS650 base model

Hi all:

Have a question about my 2001 DS650 regarding the radiator cooling fan. Before folks go telling me to remove my fan and buy a new one, let me say that MY FAN has been tested against the ATV battery and works quiet and powerful! I just wish I would run by heat trigger. So here we go...

I am yet to see my fan actually triggered and blowing heat away from my radiator by way of the Coolant sending unit. I've done all tests that I have been told to do.........I THINK! Anyway, I was told to do a pig tail test after removing the two wires from my sending unit and when turning the key on, the fan should run.... NOT! I have also replaced my fuse with a new one just to cover my butt. I do not have a relay on my 2001 base model and I suspected that my system is straight wired with my battery set up with my ignition switch just like if I was to unplug my fan and run a ground wire from one of the fan leads to one pin on my heat sending unit and the other fan lead, positive run to the negative side of my battery and then from the positive side to the other sending unit plug using it as a type of automatic toggle switch. I've been also told to toggle switch my fan so it can run on demand or triggered with the key.

OK, I don't want to do any of that and i just want my system to run as it did from the factory. Now, with all my info I have given, what else could go wrong?? Is that other item near the sending unit only to the top with the one wire hooked to it important and is that part of my red warning light trigger on my dash? I've tried my Ohm tester on continuity by hooking up a jumper at the sending unit end and testing from the unplugged fan end and get nothing and vise versa. I will include a photo of the two items in question and I just don't know what to do from here and until I can run the fan by jumper with the key switch on, replacing the two sending units don't mean anything even if the were bad. My testing problem is in between somewhere else. Can someone explain the route starting from the fan and what wires route to where from the key switch to the battery and to the sending unit.

I have been all over the internet and have not found a clear picture or a fix, nor even how to test for faults. I hope I covered everything. Thanks. Scott

Thoughts on a 450 outlander L?

I’m wanting to upgrade from my 04 outty 400 to something newer and a bit bigger and I ran across a 450L. My 400 was an awesome quad did well when I went hunting, trail riding, plowing etc. Will this do the job for me? What’s a fair value for a 2016 450L?
