2002 Sportsman 500 4×4

Hey all,

I recently received a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 and was wondering what I should do as far as maintenance. It has been sitting for about 8-10 years and have been told it was lightly used(was a hunting quad).

This is what I plan on doing.
-New Battery
-Drain Gas / remove tank and clean?
-replace Oil / filter/ air filter

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Oil in filter box

I just bought a new 2016 sportsman 570 sp
last august. The machine was riding pretty good besides some clucking noises it would make on take off or when I went over bumps ( the dealer said to break it in and it will go away ) and it was hard to put it in gear sometimes.

I have 24 hours and 90 miles on it now and I recently took it to the Baja for a week
As soon as got there I started to have issues.

1st
When I would push the throttle steady to cruise at about 2200 rpm it would drop to 2000 rpm and then go back to 2200 rpm and drop again. Until I punch it and get over the 2200 the 570 would ride fine as long as I keep it over 2200 rpm. At this time the 570 would idle at normal when warmed up at 1200 - 1250 rpm

2nd
Then the 570 at idle would go up and down from about 1200 to 2000 rpm until it would eventually shut off. But if I ride it would stay on until I stop then it when shut off.
During all this time I was checking the air filter , hoses , adjusted the throttle cable and nothing seemed to be wrong. The only thing I did notice was the spark plug was a little black at the tip.

So finally the last two days i stopped messing with it and I drove the 570 with these issues because it would ride as long as I keeped it over 2200 rpm.
Then when I got back to the states i was getting it ready to take it to the dealer when I notice a lot of oil in the air filter box and no oil on the dip stick.

I am pretty pissed that these issues are happening with only 90 miles on this thing

Minnesota atv ride

Any of you stump jumpers wanna do another ATV ride, like in Nemadji or something similar? Did one a couple years back and would like to do another!

1993 350 trail boss with coolant in counterbalance oil

Hi all,
Bought a non running 1993 350 trail boss and was told it had carb problems and needed brake work. Went to drain the counterbalance oil and more coolant came out than oil. Ugh!

Obviously the seal and bearings are shot but does the counter balance always (or almost always) need to be replaced when this happens?

Any good sources for bearings and counterbalance from someone you all trust?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Trailer Questions

I recently purchased a 6x12 trailer. I'm now wishing I got the 14', but no going back now. My question is, Will the 850 or 450 fit if I side load? I haven't tried it yet, just wondering if anyone has done it or not. I tried loading them both end to end and 12' wasn't long enough.

Can AM XMR 1000 Snorkel Extension ?

So I had the dealer install my snorkel extension on my xmr 1000 and it fits fine ... except for the hole I know have. When I ordered this I asked over and over if anything else was needed and they said no .... but I am reading that the pod needs to be replaced with and XT ? or am I incorrect. I cant believe that the kit would not have that issue addressed or is something missing from kit ? I called can am and they act like they have no clue .....

2016 Polaris Sportsman 450 H.O.

177miles/29.8 hours. Completely stock except for Polaris handguards and ATV Guru front bumper. Bike is in excellent shape. Bought for my 15 year old kid he learned how to ride on it and just isn't into it. It has been gently used, probably because he isn't into it! Heck we did an 8hour safety course that would use up some of that time. First service has been done after the 25 hour break in period. Bike is located in Lowell, Arkansas. Asking $4400
