Sportsman, 400, 450 or 500 which one

I'm looking actually at three Sportsman quads, 2005 800EFI,2005 500HO, 450 and 400 they range from 2005 - 2010 and price 2500 - 2900. By the way I have a 2002 500 HO Scrambler that roars, compare Please.

2008 Scambler 500 radiator fan stuck on when battery is connected.

I bought a 2008 Scambler 500 that had been sitting in a storage shed for at least 4 years. The bike was very clean looking, the fuel had been drained before it was stored but the coolant had not. There was a dead battery in this machine. So here is what I have done.

1. Bought a new battery.
2. Got my oldest son(12) to remove the old battery while I was at the part store picking up the new one. I was under the false impression I could put in the new battery and some fuel and ride the bike. LOL :eek
3. Connected new battery... And to my surprise the Radiator fan turned on and the lights worked that's it. The radiator fan will not shut off! Initially the red overtemp light on the console was on. now it no longer comes on just the fan when the battery is connected. No way it was too hot it's winter in Utah and this bike has not been run for years.
4. Started reading forums and Googling how to fix stuck on fan. Found common problems are Engine coolant sensor, Radiator sensor or ECM.
5. Topped off engine coolant as some had evaporated over the years in storage - no help.
6. Got a new engine coolant sensor - no help

My next step is to replace the radiator sensor but this part is a little more pricey then i want to spend on an educated guess. My question to you folks. Is there a more definite way to identify the bad part? And if so what is it?

Any info you might have would help even if it's a link to another thread here in the Forum. Thanks for reading this and happy ATVing. :grin

2000 Sportsman 500 fan not working

Hey guys. New to the forum but not to riding or to Polaris. I've been riding and wrenching on bikes, quads, and SXS's for over 35 years.

I bought an old 2000 Sportsman 500 a couple months ago to use for hunting. After repairing a couple of relatively minor issues, it runs and rides great but I cannot get the fan to work properly.

Here's what I've checked so far.....

(1) The fan works fine (checked it with a jumper)
(2) The circuit breaker is fine (unless there is another one that I'm not seeing).....verified voltage in and out with a meter
(3) The coolant sensor (on the radiator) is fine, but I replaced it anyway, just to see if there was any change and there was none. Interestingly, when I jumper wiring harness that the coolant sensor plugs into, the fan will come on.
(4) The only thing that I haven't checked or replaced is the temp sensor on the cylinder. From what I've read and based on my experience with other Polaris engines, the fan should default to on (fan should run) on when I unplug that wire.......but it does NOT come on when I unplug it.

Where do I need to go from here? I was going to replace the temp sensor, but because the fan doesn't run when I unplug that wire, I really don't think that's the issue. What am I missing?

differences in fuel filters?

Hi all,

So i have a 2004 predator 90 and a 2005 phoenix 200.
I ordered a new fuel filter for the 90 and ended up getting 2 - since it also fits my 2007 sportsman 90.
Now that I just picked up the phoenix, I was thinking to use the spare fuel filter. Of course they are different part numbers - but visually look the same (online - so I can't really tell actual size difference). The phoenix description does mention 50 and 90.....

Any thoughts?

Battery Not Charging

Hello all, I have a 2015 Polaris Sportsman 570 EFI. I have a charging problem and can't seem to find the answer. I have tested the stator (no opens or shorts, 22vac at idle and 65vac at above 2500 RPM) I have 14.1 vdc at the terminal block but only 10.4vdc at the battery. I have cleaned all connections and terminals, ensured all connections are tight. the battery had a full charge when testing. any insight would be helpful.

Adding another battery

Guys,

Looking at putting a speaker on my sportsman 400 for an upcoming trip. Right now the only accessory I’m running is a winch. If I hook up a speaker will it drain the battery too much? Should I put an addition battery on the ride?

Which speaker would everyone recommend going with? I want one that is loud enough I can hear with a helmet on.
