The photo is of the transmission that came out of my 2000 Sportsman 500. It was replaced with a new (used) trans. The case cover (not pictured) has a couple of holes bashed into it from (I assume) an axle that came loose and slammed into it a few hundred times as the rider kept driving with axle loose. I have a new case cover, and would like to go through the trans, make sure there’s nothing else wrong, and put it back together for a spare. I already removed the chain tensioner.
All of the YouTube video’s I’ve found about disassembling this trans, show a center gear with 4 holes in it that you use to remove 4 torx bolts, which then allows that gear to come out. As you can see from the pic, the gear in this one is solid. Has anyone every torn down this model of trans? If so, what comes out first, and what holds that solid middle gear in if it’s not 4 bolts underneath it like the ones I’ve seen in the videos. Also, have you ever seen a YouTube video on how to tear down THIS model of transmission?
