No power when key is on

I have a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500. It sat most of the summer and didnt get drove. Battery was toast so I got a new one. New battery shows 13v at the terminals with the wires hooked up. Soon as you turn the key to on battery shows 0 - 2v. Just maybe enough to turn on the neutral light on the dash pod. Not enough to get it to turn over and start. Now if I hook up a battery charger to the battery and set it to a 10 amp charge I can turn the key on and push the start button and everything is good. I know what you are saying bad battery This is a new one and I had it on a 10 amp charge for 3 hours outside of the atv. The thing I dont understand is why the zero volts when turning the key on. Shouldn't be pulling down that much with just the key on. Can understand when trying to actually start it seeing 0v. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for suspension advise

I want to change the foot print of my commander. I was looking at a 6inch lift kit but do want to do it on a $2500 budget. I was looking at a Super atv 6inch kit but everyone is out of stock. Does anyone have a manufacturer of a lift kit that has the kits in stock I would appreciate the info.

skid plates/rock sliders

So, I have installed the factory aluminum skid plates for my 1000 Max. I like them they are a good tight fit and seem to do the job well.

I notice though, that the outside edge of the lower plastics at the foot well, hang well below and outside, of the skid plates.

I wonder why BRP did that?

On the Iron Baltic set the footwell skid plates wrap around this edge creating the ability to slide over things instead of "hooking" on the plastic skirt. Maybe to prevent debris accumulation?

My friend who I ride with (also a Max), has already ripped off a chunk of his skirt when pushing up and over a large log/rock combo. I myself have crossed a large log/root/rock sliding directly on this plastic edge and I have slightly deformed the skirt. Thankfully, I did not catch it on the log and rip it off.

The max with the long chassis tends to rub the middle more than other machines on the trails that I ride on. So this got me to start thinking about welding a piece of metal onto the skid plates to act as a "rock slider" I could use a square tube and try to tuck it into the space between the skid plate and the lower skirt. I will probably have to scribe the metal on a band saw so it will tuck up.
I was thinking that if it was flush I would keep the stock look but stop anything from hooking or bending it.

Has anyone done this?

thanks,
Ed1

01 Sportsman 500H.O Electrical issues Help please.

Hi everyone. I Just got a 2001 sportsman 500ho this past week. Well today me and my son take it out finally for a ride. Well the person who owned it before me does not know how to run wench wiring..
Our weight we rubbed 2 wires raw and it shorted. Well I disconnected the wench for now because the issue is this the quad runs fine and everything. Though it will only start when the Key is a certain way. Like all the electrical stuff, lights, ignition, awd etc they actual key has to be a certain way for everything to work.
Now the wires that got messed up were 2 wires a (solid red) and a (white/red) wire. This all came out of the wiring harness by the battery. Now it seems only to be damaged right by the battery.
The (solid red) one looks like it goes to the rear tail light I am not sure what the small (white/red) goes too but I never had this issue.
I would appreciate any help I am not good with electricity, I know some stuff. Never seen an issue like this before though.
Oh I did get the wires fixed where they were burnt. Still have the issue. I love this quad but I need this issue taken care of because I cannot hold the key the whole time I am riding lol.

I am sorry for the long winded post tomorrow I will be able to get a video on exactly what it is doing. To help a little. I got this quad on a trade I already fixed a solenoid, I just hope this polaris is not going to be a nightmare. I really do love this atv. Coming from a Yfz 450 this rides like a dream.
