’16 Highlifter 850 engine overhaul

Hey fellas,

I'm new to the site, I just acquired a virgin 850 HL that the engine was drowned. The upper case, rod, balance shaft, and relevant component were destroyed. The bike had less than 100 hours on it. I essentially got the bike for free so I'm looking to invest in the rebuild and really turn this thing into a BEAST with the financial liberty that I have without a note.
Thus far I have ordered the following. Used Cases, fluids, gasket sets, plugs, rods, & balance shafts.

The pros: the chasis, (everything but the engine) is essentially brand new. for the engine, the head & relevant components are good, crankshaft is going to get diagnosed/balanced when I take the used cases to be machined. The intake/throttle body appears to be fine as well as timing chain & tensioner.

The cons/what I don't know: how to test/diagnose the following: water pump, oil pump, bearings, timing.

what I need: I am seeking input/advice/recommendations on rebuild tips and tricks. Anything specific that I should be mindful of. Recommended performance parts/mods while I'm inside the engine. I would like to have as much input on the increasing performance and efficiency subject as possible. I am very interested in boring to oversized/performance pistons however I have not found much credible literature/input in these engines, nor overhauls being performed on them. If I were to bore the engine to a larger piston, what specific parts and mods will I need to upgrade to support this change? Ie. ignition, injectors, timing, air/fuel tune(r), intake/airflow upgrade. I'm cognoscente of the dynamics of modifying an engine, however I am ignorant to the education required to modify this engine. That's where I'm hoping you pro's and been around the blockers can lead me with good insight and recommendations for helping me turn my machine into a awesome unique machine.

In addition, could anyone shed some light on the "JE 970 Pistons"?

Glacier Pro Plow / Mount Issue

Hoping someone can help me out here. I just purchased a new 570 and had the dealer install the new Glacier Pro Plow to it. I got the unit home and can’t get the plow to detach. I’ve watched YouTube videos and it clearly releases right when you pull the red lever out. Is there something that I can adjust to make this work. I’ve had myself and a buddy both yanking on the thing and it won’t budge. I can see when I pull on The lever it is moving the catch bracket but it still won’t release.

Anyone else had issues with this?

Thanks!

I’m back! But on a different machine

Hello everyone, it’s been a couple years since I have been on here. I previously owned an 07 renegade 840 thanks to the help of Winston at griffin performance. I sold it when my first daughter was born. Couldn’t take it any longer so I picked an 08 outlander 800, low miles and high hours..

It has a stealth snorkel on it (I plan to raise them), 30” interforce tire’s (og’s), now has my vforcejohn primary in it (I saved from my renegade) and everything else is stock. It does ok, I do miss the power of my tunes 840 on 28’s. I know clutching is key.. so I’m trying contemplate getting an stm secondary or an exhaust/tuner (only because the sound is infectious).

My plan is to remove the motor and add some solid motor mounts in it. My renegade had numerous drive shaft issues until I added those. Later down the road is love to build the motor back to an 840/860 whichever it is now and add some cams. Any opinions on what I should do/add?

Stabilizer bar quick disconnect

I finally got around to looking at disconnecting the stabilizer bar last night. I'd never really looked that closely at the bar on this new 1k till now. What I discovered is that the sway bar link on this new machine is about as close to an OEM quick disconnect as you can get! The bottom link attachment to the a-arm is a tie rod end so it swivels. All you have to do is remove the bolt from the top of the link that attaches it to the bar on one side. Then just screw the bolt back in the link along with the bushings and lay it down out of the way on the arm...THAT'S IT!!
Takes about 2 minutes with a 15mm wrench and you have fully independent rear suspension for rough stuff and rock crawling. I think I'll probably just weld a T handle on top of the bolt and then won't need ANY tools at all to connect or disconnect the bar... Best of both worlds with very little effort!

Have I ever said just how much I'm digging this new machine? IMHO, the Polaris engineers really got their act together when they laid out this new model 1k. It rocks!

2003 sportsman 700 fan direction

just wondering which direction the fan is supposed to run on this thing, is it supposed to blow the air through the rad, or is it supposed to suck the air through the rad? I am tired of replacing the thing that tells the fan to turn on so i am going to wire the fan in on a toggle switch, i have an after market temp gauge on it so i will just turn it on when it gets to like 200 degrees, just need to know which way to wire it for direction of fan. thanks for any and all help. Bob
