Hello everyone! Thanks to everyone who gave their input on my other thread to decide on my next ATV, and now I have a 2019 Renegade 850 on order! So while I wait for it to come in I have done a ton of reading to learn important mods and tricks to keep these things running in top shape, so trying to get some opinions on my amalgamated information here.
First thing is im planning to pick up a spare stock air filter as well as the can am prefilter (seems the same as the outerwears and isnt very expensive so figured Id get the can am one), then ill grab a spare belt (do these things break belts? should i always carry one with me? where do you keep it on the quad?)
Next up is planning to ceramic coat the whole stock exhaust because I hear it gets really hot, and will likely add a centre skid plate to protect the engine. I will also be buying Race Driven metal brake pads because I hear the OEM ones wear out quick in sand riding.
My last few things are looking at the rad protector, is this necessary? I mostly ride in sand conditions so not that many flying rocks or anything, and will this significantly affect cooling performance? and ive heard that these things run lean and need a tune like an EJK to run cooler, is this true?
By the way, I mostly ride in sand dunes and fast sand trails, as well as a mix of rocky dirt trails. Is there any other mods I should do or tips that I should know? I am really worried about it overheating in the sand and destroying itself like my 400ex did, I know this has a 2 stage idiot light and limp mode so that should keep me pretty safe. Should I be worried about overheating for aggressive trail riding at speed with no mud? Anything else I should know as a first time can am buyer?
Thanks to everyone for their input, its really appreciated! Want to keep this thing running for years with no issues. Cant wait for my new ride to show up!
