Question..While riding the other night my wheeler up and died. Turned the key off and then back on and all my lights worked except the gage cluster and i did not hear the ecm go thru its cycle. Of course this happened while loaded down with part of a Elk and at 11 pm at night. i shifted it into park tried again same thing..Now remind you im in the middle of bear country with fresh elk meet straped on thinking this is not what i need right now, I put it into high then back into park and it fired right up,,Im lost on this one..Made it back to camp that night and went to pack out the rest of my elk the next day and it did it again on my way in What could be the problem?
2007 sportsman 500
During our Elk Hunt the trusty Sportsman let me down. I was coming out at about 11 at night when it just died. When i turned the key off then on the front and rear lights would come on but the gage cluster lights did not.. It would not start. the ECM would not cycle. After i cycled the key a few times then everything lit up and fired right up.. Rode out and bake to camp no problem. Then the next day it did it again. i shifted the gears then all the lights came back on and it fired up...Any ideas on what to look for?
Fuel pump splice location on wiring harness?
See pic. Does anyone know exactly where the splice in the pic is. Before I tear apart my whole wiring harness. I just assume it’s near the fuse panel in the front.
Battery/Voltage Issues
I just bought a 2017 Sportsman 450 HO from a private party - only 40 engine hours on it, but its out of warranty. The battery was dead after we took it out riding for a few hours and I had to charge it.
I took the battery to NAPA and they said its fine. I read a forum on here from 2013 on how to check the stator and the regulator. The voltage at the yellow wires was 20-21 at idle cold - 19.5-20 at operating temp vs the 22-25 that the previous forum noted. Since these are lower than 22....does that mean the stator is bad?
The voltage at the black/white wires at regulator was 12.6 - lower than 14. Is this due to the lower voltage at the stator or is the regulator bad?
Battery voltage was 12.4.
Any ideas?

96 Sportsman BBQ
Just picked up a non running 1996 Sportsman 500. The plastic cover that covers the belt is melted. Everything inside is covered with soot and melted plastic. Is this something I can clean up with some emery cloth, a new belt and cover?
Howdy from Idaho
Just picked up a 96 Sportsman 500 with 3000 miles. Needs work.

Hello everyone. I'm not new to riding but I am new to the Can-Am machines. Just bought at 2017 XT Max 650 and was wondering what everyone is using for extra fuel storage? Looking to see if they make something that attaches to the rack with a quick detach system. Thank you
Greetings from Utah!

Owner of a 2014 Sportsman XP 850 (Bionic Edition) and as of last Thursday, a 2018 Sportsman 1000 (Hunter Edition). I also own a Kawasaki Brute Force 750i that I bought ~10 months ago.
All are outfitted pretty much the same:
-Ricochet skid plates
-2.5-3 ton winch w/synthetic rope
-Maxxis Vipr tires
-Elka Stage 3 shocks
-10" LED Light Bar
-Heated grips / throttle
-Street Legal Kits
I average around 10,000 miles on an ATV in a ~3 year period. The 2014 now has just over 10,000 miles, but instead of selling like I'd normally do, its in the shop getting a full work-over. $1500 into it thus far.
The new 2018 Sportsman 1000 has a DIAG code (posted in another thread), but I put a hard ~240 miles on it for its maiden voyage the day after I picked it up for the ATV dealer! :grin
When I'm not putting in 16 hour days at work, or travelling to the middle east, I'm riding SOMEWHERE.
As I live in Utah, our terrain is super diverse: In summer, I can get up to 12,000' in the mountains, and in winter, I can ride Moab, the San Rafael Swell or head into Southern Nevada between Mesquite and Las Vegas to get away from the cold/snow.
I hope to be contributing about any maintenance and/or trail stuff related to Utah. Have a Utah ATV question, post it up!
As of ~3 weeks ago, I'm also now a State of Utah certified OHV Trail Guide!

Brake lights stay on
My brake lights stay on all the time. Brakes are not on but the lights are.... I can start in gear without putting foot on the brake. What’s wrong?
Sportsman 1000 (Hunter Edition)
After literally searching for months and phoning Polaris HQ about 2019 models (to no avail), a local dealer managed to find one last crate 2018 Sportsman 1000 in Hunter Edition! I bought it as quick as I could and took it out for its maiden journey this weekend.
In a single weekend, I racked up 240 miles across high elevation (12,000') and desert terrain in/around Circleville and Marysvale, Utah.
Sadly, somewhere around the last 20 miles on the last day, I noticed the ENGINE DIAG light illuminated. I pulled codes and got:
4
520203
1
The light only comes on for a moment at idle/park, then generally goes away when riding. I find no limp mode, no performance issues, AWD and ADC seem to work fine.
As far as I can tell, that code is related to a ground issue on the ADC.
Any assistance appreciated.
Note: 10 months ago, I also bought a new Kawasaki Brute Force 750.. we took both the new PO1000 and the Kawi BF750 out, with both myself and the wife riding each. The Kawi is going up for sale and we'll stick with the Polaris. I couldn't get the wife off the PO1000 after she got on it! :grin
