2002 Sportsman 700 twin oil pressure

Hi all,

I pulled a 2002 Sportsman 700 out of my parents shed, it had been at least 8 years since it was last used. I was able to get it running without much work and went for a ride. After the ride I had a nice rainbow oil slick (it was a wet ride) under the 4 wheeler and the oil was low so I did an oil change to see if I can track any leaks. After doing the oil change I ran the motor to fill the filter, shut it down, pulled the dipstick to check the oil and had oil spray everywhere out of the dipstick tube. Is this normal is is the oil pressure too high? I did refill the oil, ran it again then let it sit for a couple minutes and slowly pulled the dip stick, there was slight pressure but no oil spraying.

I know just enough about ATV motors to be dangerous and do my own basic maintenance so any help would be appreciated.

Building a scrambler

Well I’m in the process of getting my brothers highlifter out of the garage so I can start on my other brothers 2018 scrambler 1000. I ordered the frame braces front and rear and also the differential brace and front diff cover. This one will probably get a snorkel, 4” portals and 33” tires with 20s. Any other mods I’m missing in between? Getting some 28’s for the time being until he can save up for the portals and 33s.

Ignition wire hot

Have a 2013 sportsman 500 ho and recently had a problem with the main fuse blowing when I turned the key to start the rig. But I resolved that by changing the ignition out. It started fine for a few weeks than I went to start it today and it wouldn’t turn over. When I turned the key to start it the red/black wire coming out of the kill switch would smoke. The wire was also hot coming out of the ignition. Don’t know what to do about it. Any advice?

Ignition Issues

I have a 1999 Xplorer 300.
It will not run. I bought it not running.
When cranking over, it backfires out of the exhaust and intake.
Using a timing light, I noted timing mark on the flywheel is about 12 degrees past the stationary mark. This is done with the spark plug removed and grounded to the engine. It does give a healthy spark.
I have tested the mag coil, ignition coil and spark plug wire and all the ohm values are correct.
Is this normal for the timing to be retarded during cranking or is this an indication of a timing issue.
Thanks in advance for any input and advice.

hadr shifting 2004 magnum 330

just rebuilt this quad this winter has been really well taken care of aside from poor oil change regiment.
she runs great but I noticed its difficult to shift into and out of all the gears. it will go in it just requires to much force. my 2001 xplorer is more or less effortless shifting. ive changed all the fluids w/ factory recommended Polaris oils. is there a specific lube that goes into the shifter unit im not aware of? anyone familiar w/ an issue like this? thanks

Sway brace

Finally fixed the sway brace from moving to the right. It became a problem after I installed the 29" tires. I got a 1" washer and cut it into thirds. Centered up the brace and welded one on each side outside the mount brackets.

No Spark

Hello! I recently bought my first four-wheeler from a guy online and he said it only needed a new stater put in and it should be good to go. I removed the old stater and installed the new one and now I can't even get a spark. Like I mentioned this is my first one and I don't know a whole lot about what I'm doing. I have a 1999 (I think) Scrambler 400 4x4. I would appreciate any suggestions to get this thing going. Thank you!

2″ lift kit installed

Last week I installed a 2" lift and a set of 29" takeoffs wheels and tire from a RZR. I was amazed this past weekend that I never took a hit on the skid plates. I ended up with just over 4" of lift with the kit and tires. I can actually see the full arch of the A frames now. Had no rubbing issues with the tall tires. Handling did change just a tad, but nothing drastic. By the end of the weekend it just felt like it always did. It's a good inexpensive, worth doing upgrade.

This is the lift kit I installed, it is very robust and easy to install.

Newbie from St Louis!

Just wanted to say hi and that I'm excited to tear up some trails on my new to me 2006 Sportsman 800 EFI. I was in the used market and didn't plan on buying one this old, but it has very little miles, is in phenomenal shape, and was the best price in my area - see attached pic (pardon my garage that needs a major cleaning). I'll be digging around here looking for recommendations on maintenance/parts/etc. I do just about everything myself on cars and toys. I grew up riding atv's, but this is my first Polaris that I've owned. Cheers from STL!

2004 Sportsman 400 Value

Hey all! I'm looking for some help on the value of my 400. I bought it new in 2004 and used it on sand at a small lake for years. We are now empty nesters and have moved away from the lake. Anyway, looking for an opinion on where to list it for sale.

The book value says $2400 on the low end. Here's what has been modified. Another ATV ran into it on a trail years ago. I had to remove the plastic from the rack and remount the light on the metal rack left beneath. I also had to rewire the 4-wheel drive to be constant on. the gauge does not function. The rest of the machine is in great shape! Good blue color as it has been kept inside and the seat is in perfect shape.

Any suggestions on starting price? I can post pictures later.

Thanks in advance for your help.
