Gear reduction questions

Hopefully picking up a 05 sportsman 700 tomorrow and want to set it up for mud riding. I saw a gear reduction for the 700/800 but it said it's for high gear. Is that common? I assumed most was for low gear range

Promount Plow OR Alpine Flex???

I’ve seen lots of video and reviews on the Alpine Flex with its unique compression spring system. I thought it was a Can-am branded system. However, when I look at the current catalog, it only lists the Promount.
Is the Alpine Flex from a non Can-am company? Or is it now replaced with the current Promount?
Thanks.

Hoping to fix overheating issue

Had overheating issues with my 08 polaris sportsman efi for a couple years now. Can never seem to go more then an hour in the mud without the hot light coming on and then its a long slow day back. Ive always taken care to clean the rad after everytrip but today i took the whole front end apart and took the rad out and was shocked to see how much mud was still caked to it in certain places. Got it all clean up and am putting new coolant in it now. Questions are. Which was should the fan be blowing with the air sucking in toward the engine?? I dont know just seems weird to me its not blowing out toward the rad. Also has anyone tried putting in a more powerful fan to get more air movement? Also I’m thinking of adding a coolant temp guage if anyone has any insight into how exactly to do that.

ATV Crash and a long cold night on a mountain.

Hello all. A few years ago I made the mistake of riding alone when the unthinkable happened. I crashed and a year later I wrote about my misadventure.
Riders West Magazine ran my story over 3 issues.
I though if you have a little time to burn you may enjoy the story... Here are the links to all 3 issues. Enjoy....

New to the forums

Glad I found these forums. Im on older guy (48 - maybe old is relative), so I bought a used DS 250 for trail raiding with my wife and Kiddo in VT and NH (they ride in a SXS). Have to say, even though the DS 250 is considered a "youth atv", its plenty fast for me. If I had anything faster I would probably hurt myself (although a little more power off the line would be nice)

Glad I found these forums. Already found alot of very helpful information. I'm a novice mechanic for sure so all the threads are great resource. Really want to make sure I can service and fix the DS on my own.

2011 DS 250 Lean Mixture Problem

was running way too lean...backfiring alot. Plug was white.

Carb has been thoroughly cleaned. Fuel Filter is new. New exhaust gaskets (to be sure I didnt have a leak with the backfiring) Carb Needle height is set to 2nd to last clip slot at bottom. Still has stock jets. The only way to get it not so lean is to turn the air mixture screw all the way in - and I mean all the way until it bottoms out. It stopped the backfiring and runs pretty good (a little sluggish off the start). Plug looks better, but I m thinking there must be something I m missing if I have to turn the screw all the way in.

Anyone have any suggestions?
