This was a post I did in a different thread. Decided to put it in the product review section.
I just did a good ride on Sunday where I hit several different trail conditions with my new Mega Mayhems. I really like them. I cant speak on the durability yet but here are my thoughts.
Paved Road - Obviously they ride a bit rough. Nicer than the Mudzillas though, they don't seem to get the back and forth wobble the old tires had at high speeds. I am not a fast rider though. Took it up to 97 Km/hour as a test but when I have to ride on roads I usually like to cruise at 60 -70 km/hour and the tires were fine at those speeds. Yes they are not ideal, but for the times you have to be on paved roads they are just fine.
Dirt Roads/Forest Roads - Pretty much the same as paved, handling at the speeds I drive was good. The Mudzillas pushed when cornering I found, the Mega Mayhems don't really. I did find the gravel roads to be a lot more comfortable on than the paved, but I have never liked riding on the paved roads with any tire I have had.
Hardpack Trails - Perfectly fine, comfortable, they get good traction when climbing hills or cornering, also climbed over logs and other obstacles fine. Had no problems with them here, was actually happy with the way they performed.
Rocks - Not very good. Decent traction going straight, but tend to slip sideways especially on wet rocks. (talking the large section of canadian shield rock, not loose rocks) a few times they slid and caught me off guard on steep down hill sections over this.
Mud - First of all I am not a very good mud rider, but I found that the Mega Mayhems dig bad. If I tried to go through mud holes full throttle I buried myself. But if I got stuck doing that or even entered a little slower they would slowly pull through. I ended up only having to be pulled out once. Every other time I was able to be easy on the throttle and slowly crawl out.
Overall I found the Mega Mayhems to be a great all around tire. Not the best at anything, but for mud tires they seem to do good in almost all situations. This is after only one ride though, on the type of trails I normally ride, which always have hardpack trails, rocks, mud and water crossings (Haliburton trail system in Ontario). Hopefully they hold up durability wise, because I would like to use them for the long term.
I have tried several different tires on these trails and the people I ride with have a large variety of machines and tires to compare too. Sorry for the long winded post, just figured my thoughts may help somebody.
