Fan running constantly and check engine light

My problem is that I have the check engine light and blink code 42. I have replaced the water temperature sensor but that had no effect. The fan starts running as soon as the engine starts even when it is cold. What should I check next?

Back in the Game.

Been awhile since I had a 4-wheeler. Been involved in other activities such as Fishing, Hunting, Riding my Harley. Wanted to get another 4-wheeler to Ride with my SIL, Daughter and Grandkids.

Found a nice barely used 2007 Sportsman 700 EFI and brought her home.

First question, I put 87 Regular Gas in it (after draining the tank dry-Bike had been sitting for 3 years) and it seems to ping-knock some. Manual says 87 min. Should I go to a higher Octane? if so what?

87 is the ONLY non-ethanol gas around here.

I have stripped her down to the motor and frame and went over everything. All new Polaris fluids and lubed all the points I could find. Fixed a couple of shorts that I found. This Forum has been really helpful in searching for answers, so figured might as well join.

Next step is dealing with the idle. Running about 780 now. I have read where a dirty TB could be the problem and one of the things I found was the original owner had put a K&N filter on it and had pulled the connecting hose loose (partly) from the TB Entrance-- so it was sucking dust straight in. I will pull that off today and clean the TB and check the Sensor Connection as well.

As soon as I'm done I'll get a pic up.

Hello from Montana, new to forum. Have had a 2005 400 HO since new. Never an issue whatsoever. Had Skidoo sleds for years, riding Mt's high mountains. Just purchased Can AM Maverick Trail 1000, outfitting all the creature comforts that weren't stock. My Razor riding buddies are already jealous. Looking forward to a great time on a great rig and watching this site.

2008 Sportsman 500 HO Slipping bad on takeoff

Hi everybody, I am looking for some insight and a second opinion before i dive in ordering parts and trouble shooting. Looking for the clutch gurus on here. I have searched but cannot find a thread with my issue.

I have a 2008 sportsman 500 HO with the non-EBS clutches. The quad has been neglected for the last few years and used mostly for snow plowing and hauling firewood by my father. For a long time there has been an issue with the clutches where they would slip as the secondary would start to shift, but for his use he never noticed/cared.

Now I have the quad and have been giving it the TLC it deserves. I found the buttons in the secondary to be completely toasted so those have been replaced along with the proper EPI clutch kit to turn the new 27" tires.

The quad felt pretty good driving around the block but when i took it out for a real ride it slips like crazy! Engagement is around 2000rpm when watching the clutches in neutral but the quad isnt going anywhere until 4000 rpm in low or high range on the trail. Once the secondary starts to shift everything feels right and there is no more slipping. Taking off feels like im slipping the clutching trying to start in 5th gear on a motorcycle. Nothing seems to be binding in the clutches. Motor mounts are good.

The belt deflection seems way too loose even with only one shim in the secondary, can almost pinch the belt together. The clutch center to center seems fine at 10". Also the engine braking seems much stronger than I would expect now.

The primary seems pretty grooved just above where the belt rides, right now I suspect this could be the issue but I do not want to go and buy a new primary if it isnt going to fix this.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated because I am running out of ideas!

2017 850 XP – High pitch vibration in front end?

I have a 17’ 850 XP, bought it used with 350 miles. Ever since I have owned it i have noticed a very high pitch vibration in the handle bars. I am wondering if this is normal, and just something with the front gear case?

It will sometimes go away breifly, not sure if it has to do steering/alignment or if something else may be going on. I am kind of hyper sensitive to this kind of thing....especially on a new quad.

Wheel spacing needed??? I dont know

I have a new to me 2012 Polaris Sportsman 850 Ho XP it has STI wheels on it with Swamp lite, 27/9x14, 27/11x14. The rears have a spacer under them and I was wondering why this would be needed??

Thanks in advance, Kevin

OEM parts vs. others

Is it better to buy OEM parts or others?

For example if I'm going to change the belt on my atv what do I choose? Ofc oem most of the time are more money but is it worth it.

also what aftermarket brands are good?

Winch won’t work

Of course it happened at the most in opportune time. Slid out of some snow tracks and onto the side of the trail which dropped off. When I went to winch up the winch wouldn't pull out. Luckily one of my buddies was able to maneuver around to winch me out but it sure would've been easier on my own.
So then I get back to the garage and when I test I hear a click but it won't go out and the lights lose a little bit of brightness. What is super weird though is that I can't turn the freespool knob at all. It is stuck good. Any suggestions?
