05 800 noise/vibration

hi all.
new to me 05 sportsman 800, 1500 miles. Needed a new drive belt right away, and then we discover a harsh noise/vibration at 10? mph, esp while turning. Not constant and hard to recreate/pinpoint. It may feel like something is literally flying apart underneath. CV axles, ball joints, bushings etc all fine (new and or no play) However if you grab the front drive axle which goes to the front differential, it does move where it enters the front diff and makes a clunk. Is it ok that there is play in this or should it be perfectly solid with no play. It will happen in AWD and RWD, no difference.

Not sure what else might be helpful, thanks for any advice/help.

Painted my hubs black

I decided to get rid of the ugly chrome dingy yellow hubs and paint my black to match the wheels. I taped everything up and put plastics around them, first I cleaned the hubs then I put on two light coats of high quality primer, and three coats of black. She really looks a lot better in my opinion.

Oil drain and fill plugs.

Great find the other day, Green line 1100H-08 fits many gear cases, front diffs and transmissions. My guess from 2002 forward. Pennies compared to dealer price.

07 800 metal shavings in oil

Hey guys,
as per my last post here i found metal shavings in my engine oil filter and filter case, and im wondering where to look to fix it. I also read in a few spots that the timing chains are a likely culprit, but due to my lack of working on the engines on these, I'm looking for some advice on how to check the chains and related components out to verify the failure before I just go buy a new engine. Thanks !

Oil in exhaust

Hey guys I just got a 97 scrambler 400 sport and it was not running when I got it. The previous guy just rebuilt the top end bored it out and new piston. I played around with it and found it had a bad gasket on the top cylinder. I opened it up and has alot of coolant in with the piston so I replaced the gasket and tried to frail the counter balance oil but none came out not even a drop so I checked the dip stick and put 3.5oz in ran it for about 3min smoking like crazy but at first it would idle and stay running good then started dying on me. I shut it off found ALOT of oil (real dark thick oil) in the exhaust I mean pouring out into a puddle on my garage floor and went to drain the counter balance oil again and nothing came out again? Anybody have any ideas how I can fix it or what the problem is?

sportsman 500ho has compression, spark & fuel but will not start?!

So I have an 01 polaris sportsman 500ho and a few years ago it randomly quit running. Got it out this winter, rebuilt carb, new spark plug, and fresh air filter. The machine is getting spark, and i checked the fuel pump and that seems to be working as it should because there is fuel in the carb bowl, but it will not start. Crank and crank with a battery jumper on it and it wont fire. Tried to pull start, same results. I adjusted the valves to spec, and checked the timing, and the cam gear was still marked where it needed to be. Did a compression check and it reads 75 psi. Now before you say this is low, please be sure of what youre saying haha, because some say it should be over 100 and yes, it seems low, but the manual claims 60-90 psi is reasonable I guess? (according to another forum). Oil level is where it needs to be, and coolant is full. SO.... what the heck, why wont it start! Ive heard of the cams on these getting the lobes worn down too much or something? maybe thats it? but i figured if i set valves properly it should be fine. I also dumped fuel straight into cylinder, no luck, as well as starting fluid into intake, no luck, which leads me to think its something timing or cam related but everything seems fine? what do you guys think. thanks in advance!

First ride after upgrades

Hey guys, I had been building up my 2015 800r outty for the past few months while everything was frozen and I just got out on the first big ride of the year on good friday. It performed amazing and blew away all the yamahas and polaris’ with snorkels and big tires. I really wanted to say to anyone who is looking into a radiator relocation and/or snorkeling, get the can am kits. The extra cost is well worth it. Everything fit together perfectly and the bike looks awesome. I have no doubts with the quality. And the can am yoshimura slip on exhaust sounds good and loud!

I was out to test this thing and I was not nice to it all day long! Had it floating with the whole rear under water at least 5 times. When I got it stuck straight up in the air for a minute or so the engine light started flashing and the engine was limited to about 4000rpm, it went away fairly quick after I started moving again. I assume because of oil going to the rear of the engine. Other than that it never complained about the rough riding.
