2010 Sportsman 500 Rattle with RPM

I have a 2010 Sportsman 500 that the Exhaust Release exploded and came out the side cover plate. I heard it go when I started it and did a quick look and drove it a little not much but then I heard the oil leak that goes with that. . I didn't run it out of oil but it was low. I cheaped out and ordered a new cam on Amazon that came with the cam, sproket and release mechanism. Changed the oil and primed it. I set the valve lash to a tight .006 but I have an annoying rattle that reminds me of valve rattle when I give it some RPM it starts about 2500 and gets worse as you go up. I rechecked the valve lash and it is good. I replaced the Starter Bendix gear as with a stethescope it sounds like it is loudest in that area. Any other idea's? Thinking about a timing chain or maybe the cheap chinese cam has an issue with the compression realease an is rattling? I am out of real solid thoughts and grasping now.

Help with hub coil instlation

I'm replacing the hub coil on my 1999 sportsman 500 and I have read a lot of post about how important it is that there is no damage to the inner pole the part that the coil slides onto. That if there is damage to the inner pole this can greatly affect the clamping strength of the armature plate to the coil. My problem is that the armature plate is not holing good. When I ohm out the coil and turn the the axle it goes from 30 ohms to 15 ohms so I'm sure the coil is no good. When replacing the coil I noticed that the inner hub pole is slightly mushroomed I had to file the outside edge just a little to get the coil to slide on. Also the inside of it has a little sharp edge on it by the outer axle bearing race. Do you guys think this will be ok? also do you think I should knock the edge off of the inside of the hub by the outer axle bearing race or just leave it alone?

Driveline concerns.

I just got through replacing the u joints for the front prop shaft on my 2015 scrambler 850 and I noticed something weird about the shaft itself. Everything I’ve ever learned/ heard/ done with drive shafts it was always very important that the u joints be clocked the same. So why on the front drive shaft are they 45* out? Doesn’t that cause excessive wear on the joints themselves? Someone help me before I take the shaft to a machine shop and have them correct it.

Can a lady service her own polaris sportsman 500 ?

So, I know these things should be serviced regularly and i'd like to do it myself, and not wait around for a man to do it for me. What are the usual things that need to be checked, replaced etc. ? I appreciate any suggestions and tips. Thank you

97 400 rear shock

I have found a few rear shocks but they all seem to be blown, anyone have any aftermarket suggestions that work

Let’s talk about the X2 and also about Turf Mode

Hello All,

Been through a few PoPo ATVs and currently have a 2012 base 500 and a 2012 550XP. I'm to the point of looking to consolidate down to 1 machine.

Probably 80% of the miles I put on are working around the 10 acres we own. The other 20% is light trail riding or just going to my buddy's house.

I'm attracted to the X2 mainly because of Turf Mode. My wife is mildly interested in ATV riding so the rear seat might get some use.

The box is not a big deal for me as I came up with a way to quickly mount a 50 gallon heavy duty plastic tote to the back rack of my current ATVs. I can load this up with everything I need for a day of woodcutting with room to spare.

Turf Mode: Is this limited slip or if I break traction can I expect the tire to just continue to spin? I read that some guys just leave TM enabled for trail riding - I can imagine during a high speed turn the inner tire losing traction then abruptly grabbing once the tire sets back down (putting a good shock through the differential).

My concerns with the X2 include: more weight, longevity of the rear differential, stiffer rear suspension and of course the huge jump in cost.

If I didn't go with the X2, I'd probably go with the base 570 with EPS.

Regardless of which model I go with, it'll most likely be a 2018 model.

Thank you!
