Picking up my new bike tomorrow… any advice?

Hey guys,

I'm picking up my 2018 Outlander 850 MAX XT-P tomorrow.

This is the first quad I've ever owned but I've ridden friends/families machines my whole life and have always owned dirt bikes/snowmobiles.

I live in the Northwest Territories of Canada where temps can reach -40 before windchill... I don't know how much I will be planning on riding the bike in those temps but a battery blanket/tender and some sort of block heater are going to be some of my first upgrades.

The only accessory I added from the dealer is the rad relocate kit as the muskeg up here can overheat your engine pretty quick (in the summer months). I plan on adding a rifle boot or grips in the near future ... not sure if I wanna get the BRP one as it is quite pricy.

Any noobie tips or tricks I should know about?

Thanks

2005 700 twin atv rim replacements?

So im looking to replace the rims for a new set of tires to have a summer and winter set for easy change over.

current rims are 12/6 and 12/8 i cant find those rim sizes anywhere and all i see is 12/7 advertised for both front and back. The new wheels i have have 1 inch more overhang than oem.

I have 1 new rim 12/6 that came with the new tire set. if the 12/7s do work will having an alternate rim size on the front (7 and 6) make any difference. I ride in some of the harshest places, literally over mountains and across white water creeks so i can't afford much handling issues (oftentimes the racks are loaded with 500 lbs of weight, 200 front 300 back approx).

All is new to me so some expert advice would be great

I Need Help – Timing

Working on my 09 Outlander 800r again, worn timing chains. Did one side at a time so that I wouldn't have any issues, but, my luck, I hit a snag anyways. Chains and guides have been replaced, tensioners reset, everything plugged back in where it goes, but it will not start. I watched the video that was posted in another topic ( see below ) about setting the timing and I did everything just as the video instructed:

- 1 showing in the center of the hole where the crank sensor goes.

- Timing marks on the front cylinder are parallel to the head.

- Timing marks on the rear cylinder are parallel to the ground.

If I spin the crank clockwise until the 2 shows in the hole,

- Timing marks on the front cylinder are parallel to the ground.

- Timing marks on the rear cylinder are parallel to the head.

I have spark and I have fuel, it has to be the timing. What the heck did I do wrong?

2018 850xxc or 1000xxc

Hi everyone. I am in the process of looking to trade in my 16 Grizzly 700 for my very first Can Am Rene. I’m having a hard time deciding if the 850xxc will be enough power for me. I only ride trails and logging roads. I am a bigger guy and weigh 250lbs. Is it worth spending the couple grand premium for the bigger engine? Would I eventually get bored of the 850 and regret not getting the 1000? What is the top speed of the 850? Thanks

winch for 550 and 570 advice

i have a 2007 550 sportsman touring and a 2015 sportsman 570 touring. neither have winches. i have an older 2003 polaris 500 sportsman wiht a warn winch and a slightly newer suzuki king quad that has a warn winch on it.

obviously, winch technology has come a long way. i rarely do anything to get stuck but it would be nice to have a winch. the old warn winches are steel cable which considering my low chances of using it is not that big of a deal to me.

my question is--- would it be relatively simple to swap out the winches onto my newer machines. if it involves buying new brackets and other special items, is it really worth it vs. buying new winches. it seems polaris has their winch that almost bolts right on and plugs into a harness, pretty easy. but polaris stuff is usually ridiculouslly expensive for what it is.

anyone on here been down this path of putting older winches on newer machines to save a 3 or 400 bucks? would you do it again? if not, is the new rope winches worth the upgrade? has anyone ever had a steel cable winch snap and go flying (atv type use not big jeeps or land cruisers)

thanks for any advice, once again, i think using a winch is something that is not very likely with me, i am more likely to tip mine over or have a mechanical failure. i am in the southwest, las vegas and there is not much mud out here.

Amazing quality

After tying to figure out ways to make all parts work together I decided to remove the IB front upper along with the winch plate bracket and just install the bumpers.

Rear was straight forward and looks great.

Front was a very tight fit and looks great. Originally I was getting the fairlead plate added by John and I THINK that would’ve worked and been the best route. After sending him photos i canceled the fairlead plate due to wanting to keep the IB front upper which didn’t happen. Too late.

I see no need to perform steps 1 and 2 on this model. Maybe I was lucky.

As far as step 5, I will keep trying but there is really no way to get the nut into the frame. The holes are too small with the largest hole being only big enough to turn the nut sideways and then try to tip it the right way up. Maybe it is me or maybe they changed the frame slightly. I have some surgical tools that may help me and will let you know if I am successful.

I removed any IB Skids that would interfere with the final install and as you can see she looks great and is very sturdy even with only four connections. Although I would love to have the IB front upper bashplate installed, she surely has more protection than stock.

Anyone use the Polaris skid plates?

Apparently there is something different about the 2017 1000 touring. Called richocet and they are having to work up a new set of Aarm guards for it.
Wondering if anyone has every tried the Polaris plastic units....they run $149 a pair so $300 for all 4 but have them in stock right now.

Brake help

I recently had to replace the left front brake caliper on my 2005 Polaris Sportsman 500 due to breakage of the old one. It lost all of the fluid out of the reservoir at one time and now I can't get any back pressure when I squeeze the handle. I tried back bleeding the system but still get no back pressure. It's as if the master cylinder isn't pumping pressure, however when I hold my finger over on of the tiny holes in the master I can get fluid to jump about 6" in the air when I remove my finger. Any suggestions?

Need help

I have. 1996 sportsman 400 starts pretty easy when the motor is cold but if it has run for awhile I have to use full choke and about half throttle to get it to start back actually flooding it, any and all suggestions are appreciated, the carb has been cleaned but not rebuilt new fuel and air filter. Thanks
