My 08 800 touring had some issues this weekend in the snow with the front AWD engaging/disengaging. It work work properly until I was really on the gas going uphill in the snow. (No bouncing or tree roots.) I do have 25" STI rocktanes on. It would make a thunk thunk thunk like a clutch was trying to engage and you could see the front tires not turning. I would stop, slowly get on the gas again, and away I'd do for a bit and it would start again. If I was light on the throttle it would be fine. Downhill and reverse I had no issues all day.
After reading some threads and searching, I thought maybe I had the common cage / armature plate issue. Wanted to see what others thought before I tore it down and ordered parts. It does have fresh Polaris demand drive fluid in it. Had no problems in the mud this fall with throttle usage in AWD. Was wheeling with a 2012 500XP and that drive train didnt have an issue.
The pod indicator had the awd shown the whole time, so Im thinking the cage was slipping under higher throttle? Time for an aluminum cage? Thoughts?
Thanks for your time!
Tony
