2001 Sportsman 500 HO

Hi all: New to the form. Lots of good information here, and hoping to contribute in the future.

Question: I have a lead on a 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO in good condition. Would you veteran riders/owners think I should be looking for a newer machine or should I not worry about it? I'm pretty handy and mechanically inclined (30+ year boat owner), but this will be my first quad purchase.

I will be riding it on generally flat muddy land, around our duck club and on adjoining fields.

Thanks!

Moab, April 2018

Another year, another great spring Moab trip. Guys trip this year. Weather was perfect, 73-85 degrees four the 4 days we were riding. Definitely different this year being in the General, but still a great time. There were some things I liked better with the General, and some things I would rather be doing on my 570 T.
Since I was the trail leader 3 1/2 days of the four, I took most of the video. Guess someone had to show the others how it was done... :grin It was Jerry's first time in Moab (rzr with the flags on it) so he was fairly cautious on the more difficult obstacles. I think I spooked him a bit when I attempted the 50/50 obstacle in The Pickle without even a rope on the front. Got a little dicey. Ended up throwing out the rope. He pulled up to it and went straight for his winch. A good call on his part. That's one of the spots that was easier on my atv.

2010 Sportsman Headlight switch only 4.8v

Headlights on my 2010 Sportsman 500 not working. The switch works. I tested it out on my 400 sportsman. The voltage on the black wire coming into the switch is 4.8v and it should be 12v. The yellow wire is 0v when on high beam. Why is there not 12V coming into the switch. The other half of the switch works - on/off and reverse. Is there a voltage regulator issue? I'm stumped. Any where else to check?
I attached a picture of the wire connector I'm using to test the voltage. I pulled out the shim to allow my volt meter probe to get at the wires.
Thanks in advance!

Thermostat location on 2008 500 EFI Hunter Edition

Hi folks,

I've been trying to locate the thermostat on my bike and not having any luck, the one place I was told it was, by a friend, wasn't right. I've checked the manual I bought through this site a while back, and they don't mention one.

Is it possible to not have one?

If there is, can someone please steer me in the right direction, pictures would be great!!!

Thanks for any and all assistance.

2” high lifter lift kit

Has anyone tried putting a 2” lift kit from high lifter on a 2018 sportsman 850sp?. I called high lifter and they said the kit for the 1000 will probably fit but they haven’t tried it on the new 850 so they weren’t positive...

2004 Polaris Predator CDI Box

Hey guys,

Background first... My daughters Predator, would die after it got hot. So from past experience, I have seen the stator go out. So I replaced the stator and the coil. And its still the same. When I hit the starter, I get a single spark at the plug and that's it. The only thing left could be the CDI Box I am thinking.

Now searching for a CDI, I find a Polaris ones for $175+ and aftermarket for $15+

What worries me is that the aftermarket ones have an extra blue wire coming out of the bottom. Anyone know what that is for? I called and emailed sellers of these cdi's and non of them can tell me what it is for. They only say that's the way they get them.

Help Please!!

Thanks,

Jess

Best carburetor upgrade / Fix / Dynojet

All,

I have had some issues with my carburated 2005 ATP 500 stalling out while idling it only has 350 miles on it and sat around a lot when the previous owner had it, it idle's normally between 900-1100 rpm's but will drop below and stall out.. I'm going to pull the carburetor off and clean it.

While I have it off Should I install a Dynojet kit? or is there anything else that is better/ worth doing?
