Bottom line up front: Impressed with strength and what it does for the ATV. Not impressed with the fit.
These were made in 6/2016. Even if Polaris tweaked something 1/4" that is enough to make it a PITA to install and probably not enough for them to say, "yeah we made changes."
- Front skid wavy in middle. As a detailed oriented person, it is annoying but I am sure i will get over it. Will see if the Guru bumpers due in today will cover it or make me care less. John at Guru already told me I need to figure out how to modify so i can install his bumpers with these plates.
- Had to file down the "posts" (circled in pics) in order to make them work. Either QA was off that day or the 2018 is different.
- Multiple times I had to loosen the front upper, front and center skid in order to get the entire assembly to shift so i could get the next piece on. At that point, the 16mm bolts would just drop out since they were holding on by one or two threads.
- Had to replace the 16mm bolts with 20mm bolts. No question about it. I feel this might have been due to the posts that caused these skids to bow out and not let the shorter ones reach.
- Took about 6 hours (below zero in uninsulated garage) and i am fairly mechanically inclined.
- Recommend you do NOT cut out the oil filter and drain plug holes. Just drop the skid when needed. Too late for me so I screwed the OEM protection plate into the skid. Will see how long that last since I don't ride a lot of rocks.
- Left and right rear A Arm Guards protect the same parts, same configuration. As you can see by the photos, they are totally different and the right doesn't give much protection at all (front side)
- No replies from Nils at IB since 1/14. Maybe they are on vacation again. He was replying promptly before.
