Sportsman 600 Primary Help Needed

First post so be gentle with me.. Been lurking for some time checking the forum if I needed some help. I finally decided to join as we have the Sportsman, Scrambler and soon to be a Sawtooth for the wife. I figured it was about time to become a member for situations as listed in my post title.

We started having some issue's with our 04 Sportsman with the clutch. I figured other than a belt it had never been touched so I ordered up a bunch of parts to rebuild the primary and secondary. After getting the primary apart I found out is a lost cause to rebuild it. The rear sheave is cracked really bad and grooved from the one way bearing. The front sheave is even worse crack wise and scoring where the buttons ride. The secondary looks really good so I am going to replace the bushings and call it good.

Onto google for some help. What I found is the Polaris clutch is rather expensive and I sought out another option such as a unit from another Polaris machine or possibly a Comet clutch. The machine has a good number of miles and is used primarily for plowing both driveways and dragging a trailer around the rest of the year with dirt, mulch or anything else we do on our property. The spring, summer and fall use is limited but during the winter the machine may get a good workout depending on snowfall.

What does everyone think about the Comet unit? I know I will lose function of the EBS but don't really care too much. I like OEM parts and was wondering if another primary from another model may work so I can expand my search for a new or lightly used unit.

Thanks in advance for any input!

What company makes the best cams for the outlander? If heard a lot of good thing about bom racing 425 cams. I mostly aggressive trail ride with moderate mudding

Mosquito Pass Ride

The name is a misnomer for here in Colorado seems to me. No mosquitos here. But this trail is a fun ATV ride. It is a pretty easy trail for an ATV. There were no particularly challenging sections. Lots of rock crawling I suppose, but my Outlander Max had the ground clearance to clear most of them. Our speeds were in the 15 mph range.

I was with a new friend. He rides a 2010 Outlander 850R. I understand this was a good machine in its day. It is still going strong. Maybe he'll let me ride it a bit someday.

The scenery is always good here in Colorado. We went by two old gold mines, and the view from the top of the pass was great. We could see Leadville down the other side of the mountain, but we didn't go on down there. This was a Colorado "Jeep" trail and we met a couple of Jeeps along the way. There was one section that is truly a single lane "shelf trail" with a steep incline on one side and a steep drop off on the other with only about 8' of trail width. We decided to turn around on this section. Made me a bit nervous. Got pretty close to the edge.

Leadville doesn't allow ATVs on their roads, too bad. A few Colorado towns do. The Forest Service doesn't allow ATVs on their roads either, except where posted. So we drive a gravel road, park by the "ATVs allowed beyond here sign", and then start our ride on the same gravel road. Seems so silly to me.

Here are a couple of photos I took on our ride. Nothing like boring vacation photos, huh?

I’m putting a 2” bracket lift on in about 2 weeks and I’m looking at what size tires I can clear and I’m hoping someone can help me with this. I’m looking at either 30x10x14 or 28x10x14 I’m not sure if I can clear the 30’s and still have the suspension travel with out rubbing when the suspension is all the way down.

Used Stock Shocks Pricing

I just installed Fox Podiums on my 2016 Outlander Max XT. What a difference over the stock shocks! My question is how much are used stock shocks worth? I see used ones listed on EBay between $70-$90 each. I listed mine on Craigslist for $250 for all 4. Does that seem like a fair price? They have 1400 miles on them.
