2007 Polaris Sportsman 500 X2 EFI shows HOT on dashboard. Engine will not start.

Problem statement:2007 Polaris sportsman 500 X2 EFI shows HOT on dashboard. Engine will not start
* The gas pump I hear humming from the gas tank.
* The valve atop the carburetor is actuating ( on /off) plunger - type valve sits atop the flapper valve.
* Fan has 2.5v going to it—cycling 1.6v to 2.5v. I ran 12 v to the fan -- it will run.
* The ATV will not start nor turn over. I ran 12v directly across the starter solenoid, it will turn over then.

* I followed the owners manual to turn the key on/off 3x and watch the display. The books say the "Wait" will flash and go through it sequence --- this not occurring no ,matter how I sequence it.
I get the "Check engine" icon and the "HOT" icon. Obviosuly something is faulty as I receive this "HOT" code- but the engine is not on.
I read some forms to check a T/C, I see no T/C on anything atop the cylinder.

I assume the ECM is faulty -- not sure what to do.
I need some expert guidance from the technical guys here.

Here in Colorado it is not unusual to come upon a big trail wash out. It could be 3' deep with pretty steep inclines on both sides. And we are usually heading uphill. So my Can Am can get a bit light in the front.

I think it is best to drop down into the washout so both front tires arrive at the bottom of it about the same time. Then ease on the throttle in 4wd and let the front tires claw their way up the other side while the rear drops to the bottom of the washout.

A guy doesn't want to be too throttle happy in such an attitude lest the machine rears up and flips over backwards. I assume I need to be leaning over the handle bars.

Maybe I should lash 50 pounds of dead weight to the front rack to help keep those front tires on and engaged with the ground.

I have a 2013 XMR 1000. Bike has less than 60 hours on it. I have had issues with it being down on power after sitting for some time, but they always cleared up after riding it for 30 minutes or so. Recently the issue didn't go away after riding it so I decided to drain the gas and change the plugs. Front plug was definitely fouled and it fired right up with new plugs and gas and has all the power I expect, but I now have another issue.


It idles high when started at around 1700 to 1800 rpm. After a little while it settles down to around 1500 which is higher than before. The other issue is that as soon as you rev it up at all it goes into a surging idle from 2700 to 3100 rpm. Nothing I can do with it running seems to correct the issue. This happens in park, neutral, hi, low or reverse.


I pulled the throttle body and it is clean as a whistle. Idle bypass is clean as well. Throttle cable is lubricated and not binding. Same behavior with the throttle cable disconnected from the handle bars. I'm not sure what else to check. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi guys Im having a little trouble with my 2005 polaris sportsman 700 efi. So i went riding today, and half way through the ride i was in low gear and out of nowhere the bike stop moving, as if it popped out of gear. There was no grinding no noise nothing just the bike revving up. It will go into all other gears no problem, but when i put in low it doesnt go anywhere its like its in neutral but it says that its in low on the cluster, i have no idea whats going on. Please help. Thank you

I hope some can help me. My problems started by the machine stalling with the digital display going blank. If keep turning the switch on and off eventually it will come back on and then you can try to crank it again. Now it wont start at all. I have replaced the spark plug, key switch, I took the breather off the carburetor and poured some gas in the intake and it would start momentarily, so I checked the gas line and it has gas flowing, I looked at the injector but I have no way to test it. Next I went to the fuel pump and it runs but again I have no way to test the PSI on it.
Now I have read from another owner of the same model with the same problems that the problem might be either
1.An over charging voltage regulator and he wrote 55cb#2 which I have no idea what that is. Where is the voltage regulator and how can I test it?
2. A loose fusible link from starter solenoid to red wire main B+line.
I can mechanic on it, but I am by no means a professional mechanic, I would greatly appreciate any help...

Hey guys I am having trouble trying to find out where a part goes in a carb off of a 2003 sportsman 500 HO. To start I will give a little background on the four wheeler first. I had it out for a weekend and it ran great found out that it was charging the battery so I figured I would get a new stator and put it on when I got home loaded on the trailer drove 4 hours home and bam won’t start now to get to off the trailer thinking it was the battery gone dead tried to boost it and all it did was backfire so I thought I would just push it in to the shop and look at it in there. I thought maybe the trigger coil was bad I bought and new stator with the coil on the harness put it in and a new rectifier on put it all back together and still no start just cranking. Killed that battery so went out and got a new one and new plug while I was at it put them both in and still nothing not even an attempt to fire. Put gas in the spark plug hole and it wanted to start but nothing now that I had it wanting to start I thought it was a fuel problem so off came the carb for the first time to clean it since I can’t remember the last time it was done. Pull the float cover off and this little brass piece was sitting in there. I thought it was the problem for a no start but can’t for the life of me figure out where it goes. Thinking I would try it out with out putting it back in cleaned the rest of the carb up put it back on and turn the key and now it wants to start but only ran for a second and died. Go out and buy a rebuild kit thinking maybe it broke off of something and couldn’t find anything that was close to it on anything. Put the whole rebuild kit in the carb and try to start it still the same thing wants to start but after a second it dies. I was reading on one of the forums about the trigger coil being to big of a gap so I made the holes bigger in it and moved it to .020 with a feeler gauge and still nothing so now I’m back to this piece of brass out of the carb I have attached a picture of it beside a 1/4” bit so you can see the size of it. I have looked everywhere on the thing and can’t seem to find any place that it fits or broken off of thanks in advance

Hey All, Just a small introduction about myself.

This is the first time I have ever worked on a 4 wheeler. Normally, I work on small engines such as 2 stroke trimmers, tillers, tractors...you know what I mean....This magnum 330 is for a customer that is my eyes has abused this machine to have this many things wrong with it...:eek Anyway I posted the same question under hard shifting issues. Any assistance would be most helpful. I don't have any idea where the Vin is located at. I've washed the ATV and looked all over the frame.

Added winch paper work said to hook up the solenoid to hot wire that has voltage with the key on can’t find one that keeps the volts with the key on only with it off Kolpin 2500 lbs winch
