Snow Plow doesn’t arrive til tomorrow :(

I installed a winch on my Renegade 1000 and ordered the Warn 54" plow with mid mounting plate. The plow is scheduled for delivery tomorrow but we had about 6" of snow arrive today! I did not want to shovel all that snow so I searched the web for something my son had mentioned to me.

He told me that he had seen someone use a television box to plow with. I thought, no way could a tv box hold up to that. But, as I searched the internet I quickly found a video of someone using a TV box attached to the front of his ridding lawnmower plowing a small amount of snow. :eek

I received a new 55" television for Christmas and still had the box in the garage! Could it possibly work? Only 1 way to find out!

Weird Starter question

Weird question about my 2012 Polaris Sportsman 500HO.

When I turn the key it sometimes starts, but most times all I get is the starter clicking with a whirring sound at the starter.

I have power at the positive on the solenoid (direct from the battery). I disconnected the cable from solenoid to starter so there was no resistance for some tests. When key is turned you can hear the solenoid click. I also used a test light, there is power from the key to the starter. Power also goes to the output for the starter from the solenoid. (Solid light on test light). However..... when I hook up the cable to the starter, and and add that resistance then turn the key, the starter clicks, the light is now very faint on the solenoid at the cable to the starter.

I assumed it was starter. I removed the starter and took it to a shop for test and rebuild. They took it apart cleaned it, bench tested and all works great. I re-installed the starter and am having the same issue. When the starter was out, I looked and the flywheel on the engine portion, it looked clean and there were no rounded or broken teeth or anything noticeable.

So I know it is not the starter, I assume it is not the solenoid (unless it is possible that the solenoid is failing with any resistance?)

I even tried boosting with battery charger, thinking maybe the battery isn’t charged enough? Same thing with a boost. I charged the battery overnight (2amp) and no change. I tried another battery (it is unknown condition) but it does the same thing.

I will take the batteries in today to get them checked, as maybe neither are good?

Any other ideas???

This is frustrating, especially since the quad has no pull start for a backup

When you build a mud machine, it’s safe to say you and your crew are going to get wet. It’s just a fact of life. Apparently this guy’s co-pilot doesn’t understand the meaning of the term “much machine.” ATV.com recommends that UTV drivers and passengers wear helmets and other protective gear. bought another atv

I had so much fun rebuilding a 1995 300 4x4, that I went ahead and bought what was advertised as a 2000 magnum 500 with a seized engine to work on.
I found an owners manual under the seat that says 1998, so now I'm not really sure what year this atv is yet. I'll likely call polaris with the vin to figure it out like I did with the 300.
Everything looks pretty clean on it, with the exception of the seized motor and one of the rear hubs had all four bolt mounts stripped out.
I picked up a used hub for a few dollars so I could move the atv around the garage and now I'm planning to tear it down to start working on the motor.
I paid $1000 CDN for it with a new 54 inch plow, 2000 pound winch, starter, bendix, battery, studded tires and a nice storage/back rest.
I sold the plow for $400 already, so I'm only about $600 into it so far.

I'm excited to rebuild this atv, but I don't want my excitement to get me into something that isn't worth it.
Is there anything I should look at before I start spending hours on the motor? Are these models worth rebuilding? I've heard a few stories about the rear differential
being bad on this model, so I don't want to spend all kinds of time on something that isn't worth it.

I intend to keep the atv for as long as I can and enjoy riding it once it's finished. I'm not doing any of this work to flip it or make a profit.
I was going to keep the 300, but I figured out I'm not a big fan of 2 strokes and would like a bigger 4 stroke instead.

Do the magnum's hold up?

New to ATV’s. Just picked up a 2009 Sportsman 500 H.O. ADVICE?

Just picked up a 2009 Sportsman 500HO. Bought it from the original owner who was a mechanic. It appears he took great care of it and it runs great. I’m thinking I should get all fluids changed anyway, just in case. What else should I do and what else should I look for in this model? Advice on care and feeding? Seafoam added to gas? Gas with no ethanol? Known problems with this model? Need advice from veterans please.
