Gear shiftier FROZE in neutral!

1997 Xplorer 300 4X4.

So after having flu like symptoms for the past 2 weeks through the holidays, I was finally getting over this crude and getting a bit of cabin fever. So yesterday was the first day it was sunny in over a week instead of gloomy and cloudy so put on some insulated coveralls, gloves and my Russian Ushanka to do some work outside. Despite it was below freezing.

I decided to get my ATV out to have a bit of fun. Actually the main reason was to move it from my storage building to my garage to hook a trickle charger to the battery and all of my other cars and lawnmower in case these subfreezing temperatures ruined the batteries. Which I normally do anything through winter. I also wanted to do a few things to it.

I really didn't think it would even start at 18F but I think I had been using the wrong cold starting technique. But after a few seconds of cranking, it fired right up to my amazement.

I normally leave my ATV in neutral with the parking brake off. So I proceeded to put it into reverse and the gear shiftier wouldn't move!

So I linked up a couple of extension cords and grabbed an old hair dryer. After about 10 minutes of heating the shiftier box, it finally started to free up. Once it broke loose, it shifted fine even in low range.

Any of you guys ever had this happen before?

Could there be water in the shifter or could someone have used a thicker oil? Or no oil at all? I replaced most of the fluids and greased everything I could find on this thing but that is one thing I have not checked.

When I got this ATV, the shifter boot was busted. I replaced the boot and used some nylon ties as clamps so no water should have gotten into the shifter mechanism last time I was on the trail busting through some mud puddles back in October.

Unless there was water in it before I installed the new boot and it never dried out. Is this the item that requires something like a couple of ounces of 0W30 motor oil?

So what's the technique used to fill it? Remove the shift knob and the star head bolts and pull the top half off and fill the box that way and try to see what's in it first?

2017 Polaris sportsman 450 HO help

I would appreciate some help. I am currently working on a 2017 Polaris sportsman 450 HO. Cam broke so replaced it along with gear. I cannot find info on timing this bad boy. I see 2 horizontal marks on the gear which i assume would be parallel to the head. I'm guessing the little tab on the cam that goes in the notch on the cam gear lines up with a mark on the chain, I see only 1 mark. I took out the sensor and don't see any distinguishing marks on the crank positioning. And is it the typically top dead center alignment or I read somewhere about a bottoms dead center alignment. Also what are torque specs on the head? Thank you. Or if someone can point me to an e manual for this beast I would appreciate that also. Thanks!

Pro Armor Attack tires

looking for input on the Pro Armor Attack tires for my 2016 570, my dealer has four mounted on the Shackle Matte Black rims selling them for $1072 ( CA ) Are they a good tire? I will be trail riding mostly with the odd puddle here and there...they are a bit heavier and wider than
the OEM, how do they handle?

Sportsman 110 EFI hills climbs & top speed (GoPro)

This past weekend my son and I rode out into the forest to set up a trail camera. We stopped at one area where it's fun to play, and I put the GoPro on my son's helmet. I think it's fun to see the first-person perspective of his ride. We rode some small hills and did a couple of full-throttle and top speed runs on the 110. It is a great little quad and he had a blast.

1995 425 magnum 4×4 oversized piston

I’m in the process of rebuilding my 1995 425 magnum and found out it will need to be bored out. The problem is I can’t find an oversized piston for this year. I read somewhere that they don’t make this piston anymore but don’t know if this is true. I did find one for a 1997 but the site said it was not compatible with a 1995. Is this true? If so, is there somewhere to find an oversized piston for a 1995?

Mega mayhems trail performance

How are they acting on hard pack/mountain trails? Are they really rough at low speed? What speed do they smooth out? How do they act at 50+ mph? Thanks
