Magnum 400 or 425?

I know this sound dumb but due to all the different models Polaris made back in the 1990s, I'm totally confused on what the differences is between one model or another. If you add up all the different models and the numbers that follows the model, it seems to number about 20.

I haven't taken any photos but I picked up a second Polaris the other day. It does not run so it's going to need some work. More than likely if it's like my Xplorer 300, I'm going to have to put more work into it than I anticipate.

My co-worker said he thought it was a 1996 model. It says on the side panels Magnum 400 4X4.

Here's what I know about it:

Light blue body and blue rear shock
Cyclops headlight mounted on steering neck as well as two smaller ligths below the front rack
Has oil filter mounted on side of crankcase
Water cooled
chain driven
4X4

What's the difference between a Magnum 400 and a 425? There are some parts listed on Ebay for a Magnum 425 but not a 400. Then sometimes this bike is refereed to as simply a "Magnum".

Basically I want to make sure I get the correct parts.

Best after market belt (6×6 outlander 650)

I thought I saw a thread on here about someone who did the research on a great after-market belt. I just put Mega Mayhems and I want to get a good belt (possibly a clutch kit as well). Please advise and thanks in advance.

2 stroke or 4 stroke

So yesterday I picked up a 1994 sportsman 400. I'm new to the ATV world...I've rode quite a few but never owned one. How in the heck do I tell if this thing is a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? The place I got it from seemed unsure...

belt squeal with CVTECH

sheesh....about 30 kms into my riding today this thing is squealing like crazy at anything below 5000rpm....even in Neutral.

What in the eff?!

Rode another 40+ kms....lots of travel at bout 6000 rpm, old back roads, etc....

I guess I'll pull the clutch cover off and have a looksee inside at the belt and clutches. I just love that bottom row of bolts...

CanAm Gear Grips….

I should have listened to you guys. Great product with a VERY poor way to connect them. I may try to figure a better way to mount them, linq system sucks.

Sportsman 850 right side heat issue

Has anyone add their own homemade heat shield to the right panel of their quad? Looking to put something behind the plastic panel but not sure what works. It's almost uncomfortable in the summer. Thanks for any info.
