Just picked up a 2018 Sportsman 1000XP. I've had my 2005 Sportsman 700 since 2012 and its been a great ATV but have recently been battling some 4wd issues so I found a '14 570 w/eps that I picked up about 6 months ago and it was a night and day difference being fuel injected and eps so much smoother and comfortable. Well after riding it a bit and exhaust and tune later, it just wasn't cutting it. I desired more. So I went to my local dealer and checked out the 850SP. Then saw the left over stock '18 1000 so we were able to work out a deal on that. Got it home and what a difference. After the break in I was able to open it up and this is exactly what I was needing. This quad gets down and does so effortlessly. I ended up selling the '05 700 in a day after listing it and my wife wanted to keep the 570 for her. So I'll probably be pulling off the HMF exhaust and tune here shortly and putting it back to stock. I look forward to the next outing to Crosby Tx Xtreme offroad. 2002 Polaris Sportsman 700 AWD
Hey guys, I am not a mechanic and am just trying to figure this out with online searching so please bear with me if the wording on some parts isn't right.
I have a 2002 Sportsman 700 which I got used. I have tuned it up a bunch so it runs pretty nice now and replaced bearings and stuff so it handles great.
The issue is, I am not totally sure if the AWD is working. I have looked into how the system works and when I turn on the AWD switch, the light does go on which would indicate it is working. When I look under the ATV at the hub between the front CV shafts there is a set of wires connecting to it. From my reading that is to energize it to engage the AWD. One of the wires is broken off though so I am not sure how it would be engaging it. I did test touching that wire to the hub there and if the AWD switch is on, it will spark so I know the wire itself is working.
What I am wondering is, how is the AWD working if the wire is broken. Another thing I noticed the other day is the speedo doesn't work. I went to check the cable for it and noticed that there is no speedo cable, at least from what I can tell. I don't see it on the wheel or up at the instrument column so I am wondering if one of the previous owners disconnected it and removed it, maybe it was broken.
I found sites that say the AWD works through the speedo so you don't engage it when the wheels are spinning so is it possible the AWD was overridden to always be on since that cable was removed? Would that actually work with the second cable disconnected anyway?
I am looking at ordering another speedo cable as they aren't too expensive but any suggestions about how this system works or things to look at would be great. I am not sure where that cable should re-attach to the hub either so any suggestions with that would be really helpful.

I have a 2015 Sportsman 570 which goes through a lot of mud (and sometimes doesn't make it through).
The battery went dead, I replaced it, happened again.
Fast forward and this is what I discovered:
With the key off, there is a 50 amp draw on the battery.
Disconnecting the voltage regulator from the stator (the 3 yellow wire connector) stop the draw.
I checked the yellow wiring from the VR to the stator and the plastic sheathing was filled with wet mud and the place where it routes between the oil filter and the engine was jammed with mud. I rerouted the wire and it still draws ~50 amps with key off.
That's as far as my understanding can get me.
Is the problem the VR, the stator, or something else?

Sportsman 850 Thumb Throttle
Is there a way to adjust the thumb throttle lever position. I would like to rotate it so as to point a little more out along the grip instead of pointing back.
Arthritis in my thumb makes the long reach to the lever painful.

2006 Sportsman 700 Wiring
I have a 2006 700 twin. I was riding it today. Stopped at a stop sign. Took off and got 1/4 mile up the road and it lost all power and the ATV just rolled to a stop. Cluster went blank like it had no power to it. Aftermarket light bar still works, winch still works and it rolls over when you jump the selonoid. What could it be? I'm kinda irritated about it. The trails were ridiculously bumpy could I have rattled something loose or?!?!
