battery neutral and engine ground

Hi - During my rebuild I've lost track of the battery connection for my '86 trail boss. I have a ground wire on my engine - does it go to the battery or does it connect to the frame and therefore the battery connects to the frame somewhere.

Anyone got an '86 or in that era and can post me a picture or explain how the engine, frame, and battery goes to ground?

Can Am at Bonneville Speed Week

I had the pleasure of attending three days of the Bonneville Speed Week. It is in Utah, a very friendly ATV state. Many folks used ATVs to get around or run errands on the expansive area of the salt. Sure, there were bicycles, dirt bikes and lots of hot rods. But our ATVs are useful transportation tool also. You can carry things and pull a trailer. The course is about 7 miles long, the pits are about 3 miles from the start line, and the pits are about 3 miles long. It is a big, big area.

This is my first time at Bonneville. It is a "grass roots" motorsport for sure. I didn't see any big transporters or luxury motorhomes here; just guys working on their cars under canopies. These "hot rods" are built to a rule book and then run for a "world record". I saw lots of small block Chevy motors. It was the 70th year of the event. I think the event was started when Pontiac (the Bonneville) and others were doing endurance speed testing. And the California hot rodders were running "races" on dry lake beds and / or the beaches of Daytona, Fl. I imagine it was "my hot rod is faster than yours" top speed competition that grew on the smooth, hard salt surface way out here in Wendover, UT.

I met a fella with a Can Am Defender. Actually, it was the only Can Am I saw while here. He really enjoys the thing. It is a 1000cc rig. Lots of power he says. He is from Arizona and rides the roads to the trails in his home state. He was cussing Nevada for giving him a ticket some years ago for riding on the roads. He said now Nevada allows street legal riding if you are wearing a helmet. I don't know the Nevada laws.

I want an ATV / UTV class at Bonneville to answer the question "who has the fastest quad in the world". There are lots of motorcycle classes, so why not?

2018 sportsman 1000 comfort

Wondering how the sportsman 1000 compares in ride comfort compared to the 2015 scrambler 1000 I used to ride .I loved the scrambler 1000 seat and rear shocks..thought front shocks we're alittle stiff .but not real bad..I also owned a 2010 Polaris 850 eps..and thought it road way too stiff in the rear shocks

2007 Outlander 400 – Pulling Engine Advice

Hey guys, so I have a 2007 Outlander 400 XT and I'm about to pull the engine, long story short, when I bought it early last year I didn't realize the drain plug had had a patch job. I'm guessing before someone put the plow mounting plate on, they hit a rock and damaged the case and repaired it with another plug and welding and epoxy and who knows what else. I ordered a factory drain plug and it's like half the size of the one in there now....

So after putting a lot of use into my quad, especially snow plowing, I started to notice it was dripping oil. Nothing crazy, but it was dripping. So I stood the quad straight up on the rear bar to take the oil pressure off the bottom, removed the plow plate and jb welded it. It held up alright but sure as shit it started leaking again. So after the last snowfall, I added more oil and used it and after blowing the centrifugal weight through the valve cover, I said that's it I'm fixing this right. The engine was actually still running so I know all the other internals are good, I never ran the engine dry. But here we are, months later, the machine has been on jack stands and I'm about to have some time off from work so I wanted to push forward and get this thing fixed. I I bought a new weight and valve cover and figured I could pull the engine and buy a replacement set of cases off of ebay for less than $200 and not have any more issues. So before I dive in too deep, I wanted to ask if theres anything I should be mindful of. I have the factory service manual, it says i need an engine lifting bar P/N 529 035 619, which I was just gonna buy for $40 and I figured I'd rent an engine hoist. I'm just curious, do I really need that bar? And is there any other specialty tools I need to do this job? I was also gonna change the one way clutch bearings because my quad shifts horribly, I would sometimes have to open the choke to almost stall the machine out just so it would shift. I saw a great post on here on how to (https://www.can-amforum.com/forums/c...gs-oneway.html)

Thanks in advance, any input would be appreciated, I just want to get riding again

” break ” display keeps comimg up

I ride a 2017 xmr 1000 gade. Have had nothing but issues with it right from day one but have fixed everything up till this point. Hope someone can help with this issue here. My break comes up on the display anywhere from 0 to 110km/hr. And when it does it's like it governs itself out or floods itself and its frequent. Like unrideable. I've tried starting it in gear with the footbreak to see if it's my master cylinder and it starts. I've tried jumping the break senor and it still does it. I've checked fuses and relays. Flushed my break lines. Refilled lines and bleed them. Any ideas? Anyone?

18 570 Utility Edition Lock and Ride Rear Cargo Box

Does anyone with a 2018 Sportsman 570 Utility Edition use the Polaris Lock and Ride Rear Cargo Box?

If so, how did you mount the box? Because its not a perfect fit, (yes, Polaris states that it will fit my vehicle) I was planning on drilling my own holes and either using the mounting hardware that came with the box, or fabricating a bolt and washer kind of set-up.

Any advice? Pics?

Hoping someone here can help me out with a problem. My gade is having issues. My break comes across my display and cuts out my bike anywhere from 10km to 100km/hr. Almost like it governs out or something. Read a few things here nothing haves worked yet. I stared it in gear with the foot break so it's not the master cylinder. Checked fuses and relays. Even jumped the break senor and it still does it. Any ideas? Anyone?
