Recoil pawl won’t spring out.

The 2005 sportsman 500 ho was having some starting issues last spring. I figured it was the starter going out. The recoil was slow to retract as well. I figured before fall I'd put in a new starter, Bendix and rebuild the recoil. Started in on it today. Bendix swap was easy. I changed out the main recoil spring, kept the Polaris rope, the rope carrier (no idea on the name) the pawl, the pawl retract spring, friction spring, and friction washer. When I tighten things down it won't spin. So I backed it off to snug and still spinning. However the pawl won't pop out when I pull the rope. It has to be something with the friction spring/washer putting too much drag on the pawl. It is greased. I watched one the the videos on YouTube saying the friction spring should be roughly parallel to the pawl. Tried that. I'm strumped at this point. Thanks for any help.

New Commander

I just added a 2018 Commander DPS 1000 to the family. My normal ride is 2013 650 xt Outlander, the toy is for my wife... supposed to be for her birthday but she found out about it yesterday. Lol

Can’t wait to head to camp. Let the good times roll!!!

Fuel Valve – Reserve

Have a 2008 Scrambler 500, it ran out of fuel during our last ride. Rotated the fuel valve to reserve and it wouldn't restart. Glanced in the tank (didn't have a flashlight), but it appeared to be empty. I checked the valve position against what the owners manual shows and it appears to be correct. "Reserve" it straight up, "Off" is at 9 and "On" is straight down. Has anybody had a similar experience and if so, what is the fix?

Sportsman 500 EFI clutching

So I am going through the learning curve on the clutching for my 07 sportsman 500 EFI non EBS, I installed 14" MSA diesel wheels and 27" Mega Mayhems, next came the clutch kit. I installed a EPI "mudder" clutch kit, it was ok but I felt there was more that could be done, changed to gold primary spring. This change was descent brought the engagement RPM's down, but still feel there is more than could be done lol, now I am wokring with Rick Ritter on the clutching. He is sending me some different parts to change out in the primary and secondary clutch along with a new belt he recommends, after telling him what I am looking for which is low end and midrange.

I was reffered to him by another guy who said he is a super guru on clutching on some other bikes and should be able to hook mine up, very nice guy and really listens to what you are looking for.

Anyone here used him before?

Parts should be here shortly and I will report back.

antifreeze still in oil

I have replaced the water pump gasket and the head gasket on my 04 Sportsman 600. I had the head shaved 10,000th to ensure a clean level surface. I didn't not notice any cracks or warpage. Should I have replace the base gasket as well? Im at wits end and need advice badly before I start throwing parts in my neighbors yard out of frustration. Any suggestion would be appreciated by my neighbors.

Sportsman 450 owner’s review

I've got a friend/new rider that thinks he might want to buy a machine. I've found a sweet deal on a practically new 2016 Sportsman 450. It's got less than 200 miles on it. I've seen where some have had a few electrical and other issues with the 450's.
My question is, are you current owners satisfied with your machines and would you buy the 450 again if you had it to do over? This guy knows nothing about atv's and is depending on me to find what he needs. I have no personal experience with the 450's.

Where to buy a plow

I'm looking to get a snow plow for my 95 xplorer. I'm looking for recommendations for where is a good place to buy online and what brand would you recommend? Thanks
