New 2018 450 ho spare parts?

Had a Polaris about 10 years ago then got out of riding. I know I need to have a few things on hand just in case like belts and spark plugs. My question is what brand of belts are the "go to brand" now and are people still running ngk plugs?
Also if you have any other things I am not thinking of please let me know. Thanks Patrick

2005 Sportsman 500 top end rebuild

Well unfortunately I got screwed on a deal for a Sportsman 500 that I bought. Only has 453 miles on it and is in great shape...except that it smokes, especially under acceleration. Didn't do it when I bought it for some reason, got it home, added oil (proper amount) and sure enough it smokes. Changed the gas, oil and filter. new plug (which was covered in oil and carbon), and cleaned the carb. Fires right up and runs great, except the smoke. Checked the crankcase tube, clean. So I am guessing it needs new rings, although not sure what happened in only 453 miles to cause it. That and the fact that it idles and runs perfect. So I bought the necessary stuff for a complete top end rebuild including new piston and cylinder head.

So after a long story made longer, my question is do I have to pull the engine to do the swap? I have the factory service manual and a Clymers manual. the Clymers manual says that it can be completed while the engine is in the frame? Just wanted to see what everyones thoughts are and what they have done, along with any tips or tricks.

thanks!!

Warranty Experience

I know the warranty topic is a dead horse but this is a little different.

Has anyone had luck with warranty paying for a swamped engine? I swamped mine, it runs but thinking it bent a rod or a valve. I somehow fanagled the dealer into convincing their secondary warranty company (not polaris warranty) to sell me a warranty 3 months after the factory warranty was up. I took all plastics off the machine and cleaned everything from dirt. I mean I used q-tips and degreaser, super meticulous. Oil has been changed 4 times so there should be no dirt in the engine, all other fluids changed once. What does the dealer find that's convincing enough to think the engine is swamped?

The sales manager at least has my back, not sure about the service department yet.

So, let me know your experience and if you have had luck with warranty paying for a swamped engine!

Pic is after swamping, looks brand new.

Shakes horribly above 35mph!?!?

Just bought a new 650 outlander xt. Dealer had already installed MSA wheels and 29” ITP Ultracross R-Spec tires. I’ve never had a tread similar to this on an atv but assumed it would ride great, being a less aggressive/sand type tire...Boy was I wrong!! Anything above 35mph shakes the atv like crazy. Above 45, you can’t keep it on the road...Took back to dealer and they said the camber was out of wack? Just got back and it’s still the same thing. Any recommendations on what I should try next??

Outlander Valve Covers

Like many of you, I have discovered the valve covers on my outlander are warped. I see there is all types of different companies offering upgraded materials for replacement/upgrades. Do you guys have a favorite?

Thanks

Ranger drive wheel won’t emgage

Hey guys. I have a 12 ranger 800, when I go to put it in gear the back drive wheel does not engage. If I put it in 2 wheel drive or awd it does however the back passenger wheel still doesn't go. If I let off the throttle it does slowly creep forward. I just changed both front and rear gearcase oil, and it is not making any kind if awkward noises. C mon back brotha.

Polaris Xplorer 400

Hello everyone,
Just purchased my first ATV since all my friends have one. I got what my friend called a good deal, on a polaris Xplorer 400 4x4 2 stroke. Needs some work but it runs and drives. Looking forward to asking some questions, because of course my friends wont always be around to help fix stuff!!

Not new here but been a long time

I haven't posted here in quite sometime, due to a couple of injuries and a surgery in the past three years my riding has been very limited, finally getting back into the swing of things though!

Spent last weekend at the Oregon Dunes, if you have never been I HIGHLY, STRONGLY and ABSOLUTELY suggest you check it out! Without a doubt the most amazing riding experience of my life despite a few setbacks! SEVEN miles of beach to ride on, about 20 square miles of sand dunes, the entire area covers 40 miles of the Oregon coast and there are three different riding areas.

I had some mechanical issues which I think we could have actually solved on the trail arggghhh and blew out a trailer tire 35 miles from home on a 1,000 mile round trip! We still made it home with no damages to machines or bodies other then a few bumps and bruises!
