I wanted a tire with more wet stuff traction vs the OEM carlisle act. They were fine on gravel roads, but would get stuck in mud/black earth holes in trails.
I just got my set of mega mayhem installed and went for a ride.

Awesome traction in mud holes and forest trails, no slip. Not going to get stuck. They grab a lot.

Unfortunately, the trade off is :
Woobly ride on gravel/dirt roads. Feels unstable at higher speeds. Feels like you are floating on the trail and not really in control.

KM/H: 50 feels ok, 60 feels fast and 70 is probably the fastest you can go. With my old 2005 bike with worn out act tires, I could go 90 and it didn't feel unstable.

Tire PSI is 7, was it a bit low for gravel roads? Should I bump up the psi for better gravel stability?

I don't really want to deal with switching tire sets for gravel/forest trail use. I'll probably just keep those tires and be done with it, but when they wear out, I wonder if I should just go with a less aggressive thread to get better gravel manners and just accept that it won't go through anything mud.

Opinions?

Where should the fuel pump be located on an Outlander 400? Mine is near the carb and wondering if that is the correct location for the fuel pump.

I'll start by introducing myself...I have been into pretty much all things mechanical for years now, and finally got ahold of an ATV. Picked up my 2000 Magnum 500 from a guy for $700 off Craigslist. Said it wouldn't start and wanted it gone. I figured it was a deal, so I jumped on it. Not sure on how may models of Magnums there are, but it's the 4X4 shaft drive with EBS.

Long story short, I tore it apart to see what was wrong and the piston was annihilated. From the looks of it, he drove it till it ran out of coolant and it overheated, then boom. Tore the engine down more, split the case, and got all the pieces out, cleaned everything, and discovered that he locked it up so bad that the gear on the balancing shaft turned and the counterweight was hitting the rod when the alignment marks where lined up. Got a new(used) balance gear/shaft, I had the cylinder bored, and picked up another Head that I ported and polished and did the valves on. Put it all back together, and now I have an operating ATV!

I have done a few things to it since, and a few more to come. Looking for a good Trunk box, and clutch kit setup. The carb is getting jetted soon as my DynoJet kit comes in ( I live at 6500 ft). My primary purpose for this ATV is for when I go hunting, camping trips, and trail ridding. I'm not interested in Mudding or crazy stuff like that...Not into washing all that stuff off the quad every time.

I know there are a lot of threads on lifts but I couldnt find exactly what I was looking for. So if anyone can help or point me to a different thread, please do.

I have a 2017 Sportsman 570 with the big tire package from the dealer. Took it out on the trails for the first time and noticed the rear wheels would bottom out on the body trim. So I ordered one of the cheap $31.50 2" lifts on eBay. Directions werent the easiest to follow but I got the rear brackets and spacers on fine. That seemed to give me enough clearance with my rear tires and I liked the look of just the rear lifted so I didnt even install the front spacers.

Questions:

* The listing stated these lifts are for 1999-2018 Sportsman 500/600/700/800. In 2017 Polaris didnt make a 500. I emailed the seller asking if this was ok to install on a 570 and they came back and said No, it wasnt (???) That surprised me. I dont know if this seller is actually knowedgable or just importing these from China and selling them - not knowing really anything about ATVs. Can anyone think of a reason this would NOT work on a Sportsman 570? I attached some pics of the install which seemed to go on fine.

* From other posts I have read it sounds like doing a lift puts your axles at jeopardy - but it mainly sounds like this is a problem with 3" lifts. Any concerns I should have with my stock axles and this setup on my rear?

* Assuming this lift IS ok for my 570, does anyone see any issue with me just installing the rear lift and not the front spacers?

I am trying to replace the grips on my sportsman and need to know the handlebar diameter to do so. Can anybody help?

First post so be gentle with me.. Been lurking for some time checking the forum if I needed some help. I finally decided to join as we have the Sportsman, Scrambler and soon to be a Sawtooth for the wife. I figured it was about time to become a member for situations as listed in my post title.

We started having some issue's with our 04 Sportsman with the clutch. I figured other than a belt it had never been touched so I ordered up a bunch of parts to rebuild the primary and secondary. After getting the primary apart I found out is a lost cause to rebuild it. The rear sheave is cracked really bad and grooved from the one way bearing. The front sheave is even worse crack wise and scoring where the buttons ride. The secondary looks really good so I am going to replace the bushings and call it good.

Onto google for some help. What I found is the Polaris clutch is rather expensive and I sought out another option such as a unit from another Polaris machine or possibly a Comet clutch. The machine has a good number of miles and is used primarily for plowing both driveways and dragging a trailer around the rest of the year with dirt, mulch or anything else we do on our property. The spring, summer and fall use is limited but during the winter the machine may get a good workout depending on snowfall.

What does everyone think about the Comet unit? I know I will lose function of the EBS but don't really care too much. I like OEM parts and was wondering if another primary from another model may work so I can expand my search for a new or lightly used unit.
