What is the micro switch in the throttle control of a 96, 250 Trail Boss, used for? Is that what is refered to as the “ETC SWITCH” in the circuit diagram in the Haynes manual? it shows normally open, and closed if a “Fault” condition... ???
I just rebuilt the top end on it, as well as the carb. Bike starts right up, but the idle sucks. No pressure on the thumb lever.. it dies... if I hold slight pressure it runs, but if I turn handlebars to the right engine dies.
I opened throttle box up thinking throttle cable has stretched, but what I found, was it was badly corroded inside, took all apart, and cleaned it up, but while I was in there, I noticed the throttle cable appears to be sticking somewhat, the cable is slow to be pulled back into the sleeve after pressure on the thumb lever is released... can those be lubricanted? And if so what type grease.
I know, when I was putting it back together, I may have re-routed the cable incorrectly or maybe pinched in there someplace between the tank and the frame... I’m going to pull the tank back off and check that out.
Fuel/air mixture screw seems best about 1 3/4 turns out but idle adjust screw makes absolutely no difference... all the way in or all the way out, does not change revs at all. To keep engine running, I must keep slight pressure on the lever.
Any thoughts would sure be appreciated.
