Now's the perfect time to take care of the last minute preparations for this year's Discount Tire Rally on the Rocks which is set to run May 15th through May 19th, 2018. This has always been one of the premier side by side events in the country and this year will be no different. We hope to see you all there ready to have some good, family fun!

Last years event was the biggest ever; with all the buzz online we are expecting to surpass last year! Personally, I can't wait to see the amazing vendors and meet up with some of the many friends I have made during the many trips I have made to the Rally over the years.

Make sure you don't miss the Discount Tire sponsored breakfast in the arena Wednesday, May 16th from 7:45 to 9:15 - it was a fan favorite last year! Our crew worked hard making breakfast sandwiches for everyone before the ride started. Thanks to Camp Chief for their amazing grills!



Jen even stepped it up a notch by delivering sandwiches to those in line for their ride that missed them inside.



Also, Wednesday night is the Discount Tire ice cream social with another HUGE raffle!

So I am in the market for a Defender DPS HD8. I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger but I hesitate for two reasons. Reason 1: Debating if I want to buy a 2017 for a better price or spend the little bit extra for a 2018 and get the nicer rims and tires that come with it. Reason 2: Polaris just came out with their next gen Ranger with a large power upgrade. Do you think Can Am will be upping the power output of the Defenders for 2019? (they should be released in June) All three sizes of the defender are way under powered compared to the Polaris line up.

I'm looking for input on the power argument. How many of you guys have owned two comparable machines from each brand or at least driven them? Give me some info, this is a large investment for me and i want to do it right the first time. I have driven a Polaris Ranger 900 XP and a Can Am Defender xt max HD10. It is hard to compare the two because of the size difference. Looking forward to everyone's input.

2017 XMR MAX 1000. Trying to get more articulation for mud trails (low MPH). Has anyone removed the stabilizer bar?

Shop manual really isn’t the greatest IMO.

Shaft, upper fronts and rear carriers are a b—— especially with iron Baltic skids. Guess at ten hours I shouldn’t worry so much.

25 I’m pulling it all apart!

Last year my son received a 98 Xpress 300 as a gift from his uncle. It worked fine, except the starter didn't work and it grinds in reverse. Reverse isn't important, but he purchased a starter and we just finished putting it in. We had a lot of trouble getting the secondary clutch off (I bought pullers for both clutches) but it finally popped off after shortening the puller and filling the hole with grease. It was tight enough that the puller actually flattened a bit on the end of the spindle. In an effort to get the puller out, we actually took the clutch apart to potentially heat the shaft, but ended up getting it out with a BIG impact gun. We put the secondary back together on the 2-1 setting and put it all back together. Without realizing it, when we were first working to pull the secondary we had it in gear. Once we realized it we put it in neutral and blocked the secondary. It was substantially harder to get off than any clutch I've ever pulled from a snowmobile... It was my first time pulling one on an ATV.

Now the problem we have is it doesn't seem to engage in forward gear. When we put it in reverse, it stops the secondary when it engages (as I would expect) and still grinds when going backwards, though not quite as bad as before. When we put it in forward the secondary just continues to spin with virtually no resistance. I can see the primary engage and pull the belt into the secondary, but it does not seem to engage the gears. If we push the lever forward we do hear some clicking. It's almost as if it is out of alignment, but having never worked on the gearboxes I thought I'd ask for advice before I started adjusting anything.

With how hard we had to turn the puller to get the secondary off, could we have bent or caused something to be misaligned? The boy is really disappointed right now and itching to keep working on it, but I really wasn't sure where to go next. Any advice would be appreciated.
