Been lurking awhile. Finally got registered.
Bought my first Can-Am. Sixth one in the family now. Second with tracks. 2013 outlander 650xt Max in camo. Bought used. Still have my RZR 900XC, sold the Ranger.
So far I like it. Did a full service before riding it and didn't find any surprises.
Has the "normal ?" noises. Knocking engine, clutch/belt whine. Whistling vent line, that just started. And horrible fuel consumption with the tracks. BUT fun as heck.
Using this as my snowmobile, getting some strange looks from the sledders. Already has been named Big Foot.

Water Pump Impeller Maintenance

I have a 1995 425 Magnum 4x4 and I had a new mechanical seal and oil seal for the water pump installed by someone else. It started leaking antifreeze right away and it overheated even at idle. I disassembled it again myself and found that I could spin the impeller very easily and I assumed that the water pump was not turning causing the over heating. I also found that the sealing washer was installed on the wrong side of the impeller and that the aluminum washer that was supposed to be between the castle nut and impeller was missing. I have re-assembled everything according to the Polaris diagram. I have torqued the castle nut to 5 ft lbs. I can still turn the water pump impeller with my finger but with some resistance. Is this supposed to be correct? As the outer washer was missing did it not load up the mechanical seal correctly to work properly allowing the seal to leak? Its a PIA to work on and I do not want to have to do this again!

Thanks for ay input.

Ricochet skid plates on gen 1 outty 800

I just bought the ricochet skid plates for my 2006 outlander 800 xt, but they are used I didn't get the mounting hardware. Does anyone have any pics of how these things attach? I am wondering if I can get by with just going to the hardware store for some fasteners, just not sure what all I am going to need. I have the three piece plates for the frame rail and foot guard. I am looking for detailed pics of the attachments, but I can't seem to find any.
