Thought I'd share my recent install experiences with the Direction 2 fenders :
DIRECTION 2 INC. - OUTLANDER 400
Overall really positive, I knew they weren't "for" my bike, but I needed some/any extra protection from the mud/water my tires throw, so I nabbed a set off ebay for ~$130 shipped and set out to see what I'd need to address to make 'em work.
The fender set is said for the 06+/"Gen1" Can-Am bikes, mines an older 05 Bombardier, but I knew they're very close, relatively, so I figured I could make it happen.
The front fenders were a direct fit, no issues at all. Remove the screw holding the lower footwell to the upper fender and the corresponding hole on the overfenders lines everything up for you to drill and secure. You only need a 1/4" drill bit, phillips screwdriver, and 10mm wrench, to install these, btw.
The rear fenders required a little more modification, however. The alignment screw that secures the lower footwell to the upper fender is out of place on the overfenders. I'm not sure if that's an issue on their end, or the bikes change that location from one year to the next. It's not that big a deal, tho, honestly. Just hold the rear fender up into position, and use the rearmost kick-down, along with the turndown at the front, to position the fender into where it's going to sit, and drill a new hole in the fender, through that existing hole on the bike. After that, it's again, just a matter of snugging the fenders against where they're going to mount, and drilling the corresponding hole.
Biggest issue faced: On my XT, the way they angled up the rear bumper brace, it cuts right through the area where the rear "mudflaps" would otherwise hang, so I had to cut a channel out of the mudflap, approx 1.5" by 3-4", so they could be pulled up/back, into the bikes existing fenders, for securing. Not that big a deal, but worth noting.
Again, overall pleased, the hardware mimics the OE hardware, they look like they came on the bike from the factory. Due to the spacers I chose, lol, they still don't completely cover the tires, but every little bit helps, right?
