Part ID Help

I posted yesterday about having a knocking in the front of my 1996 Sportsman 500. Started going through it to rule out possible issues. Removed the front right hub to put new rotors on and a ball bearing fell out from back in there somewhere. Could have been the cause of the rattle. Most likely from a bearing but I'm not sure which one would have balls this big. Any help would be appreciated.

New Defender XT Cab

New Defender XT Cab with Kolpin plow was delivered last Friday. New shop plow vehicle. Other than a few issues with install of parts from the dealer, everything seems to be fine. Ordered up mirrors, and working on a tool kit/box to have in the bed.

Planned mods/upgrades: stereo, odyssey batter, street legal kit, side mirrors, rear view mirror, custom bed organizer

Planning on putting it through the paces for deer opener.

Sorry for the sideways image. Uploaded like that.

Price paid and winch?

Just picked up a new 2018 570 base for $6100 OTD, seemed to be the best price I could get over the phone in Florida but wondering how I did compared to others.

Also, I haven't had a chance to check but does the base model come with the winch wires pre wired?

Thanks!

1997 Sportsman 500 Rear Caliper swap with 98??

Hey everyone,

As stated I have a 1997 polaris sportsman 500 and for some reason they thought it would be an amazing idea to use 2 steel pins embedded through the aluminum caliper housing to hold the pads in place, and as far as i can tell they only used this specific caliper on certain 96 and 97 machines.

Long story short I have searched high and low to find a replacement caliper with no luck, i mean i found 2 used ones on ebay, but my best guess is they are going to have the same problem with the steel retaining pins seizing inside the aluminum, unfortunately meaning that they are only as good as the pads that are stuck in them.

As far as I can tell, both the 97 and 98 sportsman 500's both use the same 4939993999D002 rear gearcase, can anyone here confirm if the rear caliper from the 98 model would bolt onto the 97 gearcase?

I know that the 98 caliper uses a 2nd master cylinder attached to the rear foot pedal, where the 97 used a manual lever with a pin that pushed the caliper cylinder in, and it didn't have the 2nd reservoir or master cylinder like the 98 does, so that would need to be added as well, but all means nothing if the caliper won't bolt right on.

So.... do any good polaris techs have my back on this one?

John Deere Buck ATV

Hello--I just posted this blog in another section, but it now appears that this is the correct forum to post my question. I recently purchased a 2005 John Deer Buck 500 atv. It only has 60 hours and it appears to be essentially brand new. I have put about 6 hours on since purchasing it this past summer. I have had no problems with it until last Sunday, I went out for a brief ride. The motor died twice, but I could re-start it, and it back fired once or twice. I was able to get back home with no further problems. Does anyone have any thoughts about these issues? Thanks in advance
