The weirdest thing happened last week - I unloaded my 2016 Sportsman XP and drove it up my driveway. Turned around and came back, that's when it started making a crunching sound. I also noticed immediately that my reverse gear would not hold and had grinding in neutral and no movement at all in low. Park would still want to propel me forward.
Not sure what could have failed on it (and why now for that matter) when it worked great the last time I rode it. Thinking that I somehow broke the shift fork and sucked it through the transmission.
Save for tearing into the gearcase and finding complete carnage due to ingesting part of the shift, I want to try and fix the gearcase.
It might be cheaper to buy a used, low mile take off and source replacement parts from it. I noticed that the 550/850/1000 XP and Scrambler counterparts all have different part numbers for the entire assembly. Does anyone know the technical differences and what compatibility is between the different models?
