I would like to know if I can take a computer from the same year and model machine and swap it to my machine to see if it will start. My machine will not start and I have checked just about everything. Here is my story below which is why I want to swap a computer with another machine.
Thanks guys for your help. Here is my dilemma and the things i have checked or replaced. My machine was riding fine and then just died in the woods and would turn over but not start. I towed it home and have checked and or replaced the following. The machine has good spark and is getting fuel and turns over just fine but will not start only a small backfire occasionally if I give it some throttle while turning over.
1. Getting spark
2. Getting fuel
3. fuel pressure is good
4. battery is fine and turns over fine
5. flywheel key is fine
6. changed the cps even though the old one tested fine
7. coil tests fine
8. stator ohm check is a little off book spec but all 3 legs are consistent and none go to ground.
9. compression is good.
10. valves are within spec
So this has turned into a real head scratcher. I did find a slight bare wire on the stator wire that plugs into the rectifier. I taped it up so it should be a problem. But thats why I am trying to figure out if the machine will start and run without the stator plugged in. The only thing I can think of is maybe the rubbing wire shorted out the rectifier and maybe the computer in the process.
Sorry for being so long winded but as you can see I have checked just about everything I can.
Any help would be appreciated.
