So I was taking off a broken axle off of my 2012 Sportsman 500 to replace it with a new one. Boot was off and the cage broken and bearings were out with some missing. As the axle came off the top portion that goes into the rear end was already detached from the rest of the axle due to the broken cage. Got the axle out but now how do I get the end connected to the rear end off? I know that there is a ring on there and a friend already advised me to try and get some penetrating oil in there somehow and then pry from 2 sides. Well, that isn't working out for me too well. Not having any luck.
Seems that the other side is still connected but that too isn't coming off of the rear end at all either. Watched a few videos and they suggested to sort of push the axle in and then pull it back quickly with some force and it will pop out. Yeah Right! Only thing that happened there is I believe the axle detached from the cage but I cannot see that since the boot is still on. Looks like I'm going to have the same problem on both sides. Any advice on how to get that piece off? Here are a few pictures. Thanks.
