I apologize in advance if this has already been asked/answered. But I'm planning on coming back to Polaris and buying a Sportsman 850 SP Camo with power steering in the somewhat near future... I previously had a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 500, 2004 Polaris Sportsman 700, and a 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500. My last ATV was a 2011 Grizzly 700.

On my Polaris Sportsman 700 I had ITP 589's and loved those (but I don't think they even sell those anymore). I thought the ride was pretty good and they performed well in the muck. For my Grizzly 700 I wanted the best of both worlds. A radial tire that performed well in the muck but rode well on trails while not robbing a lot of power which is really what I'm looking for all over again for the 850 Sportsman. But anyway for my Grizzly 700 I got 27 inch Mudlite XTR's on 14' ITP SS wheels. I really liked that combo and I'm thinking about going back to it.

However, I kinda like the Maxxis Viper tires that come stock in the Sportsman 1000. I like that they are 27inch, radial, and seem to just 'fit' the machine. I'm sure some one here will say just get the 1000 if I end up wanting those tires lol but for now I just want to know for those who have used those tires what they think of them.

To clarify I'm looking for an aggressive tire than can hold its own in the mud but gives the best ride available on trails while still being pretty comfortable and not robbing to much power away from the machine. I'm looking at going with 27 inch tire probably on 14inch weels again for whatever tire I go with. IMO when I bought the 2011 Grizzly the ITP XTR's fit the description I gave above the best. I'm not sure what all has changed since then. Right now I'm looking at/considering:

1.) Mudlite XTR's
2.) Maxxis Vipr Radial
3.) ITP Blackwater EVO's
4.) Bighorn or Bighorn 2.0?

Let me know what you think. It will definitely play a role in what I choose to buy.

hi guys, i picked up my new renegade 1000 yesterday and i discovered a few strange things. first, its equipped with ABS brakes, which is freaking me out a bit as im not sure how its going to react on the trails when coming into corners, as well as how well it will work in the six month winter we have here in norway.
but the strangest thing is the good old thumb throttle has been replaced by an electronic throttle system with a lever operated by two fingers instead.
its a strange plastic lever operated by the forefingers, leaving me to hold on with only my two little fingers. you can turn it around and operate it with the palm of your hand as well but i found that too alien. after riding it for a few hours, i found my hand and forearm were aching from operating the throttle and holding on with only two fingers. i cant find any info online about this, not even a picture or reference to it. has anybody heard of this before, or is this another strange europe only thing?

I’ve got a 2015 570 and the battery wont charge. Battery is 2 months old and went and had it tested and it’s fine. Also used a buddy’s good battery and it didn’t change. Tested the stator and it has .4 ohms which is good. And it has 20 something volts ac when running at idle which is good. Tested the regulator rectifier and it’s good. Did a insulator breakdown test on both and they’re both good. But still not charging. Idk what else to do. Are there any fuses or breakers for the charging system. I’ve got a wild boar radiator relocation kit up on the front rack so didn’t wanna take it all off to look at fuses just yet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Wifey and I have been really enjoying our new 570 Max DPS Outlander. I'm now getting the upgrade fever. Here's what I'd like to consider, and would appreciate any feedback.


With the 2-up I only ride with Wifey on the back, (I do let her drive a lot though, and she loves it). So it's always (2) on this ATV whenever we ride. We do not have an overly aggressive riding style. We don't ride off of the trails, nor hammer down the rocky slopes at plus 20-25mph. We just enjoy the scenery, and taking our ATV out for a nice sunny day.



- I'm thinking of going with the Iron Baltic skid plates. I kinda like the idea of plastic for all of the rocky terrain we have here in AZ. Yes, I understand the fastener's might be an issue if I scrape a lot of rocks. Where we ride in Bulldog Canyon, plenty of rocks. So I understand the need for protecting your bottom.


- I kinda like the idea of going with a winch too. Looking at the Superwinch Terra 35. Reviews look great, and the install appears to be snap.


- Also thinking of going with an EJK, EFI controller. I do suffer the heat on the left ankle thingy, even with the 2018. I'll do a bit more research here, and maybe some of the home brew heat ducting ideas might work.


- Last question, is it necessary for adding a frame mod? Something to stiffen things up? Is so, is there a kit recommendation? Simple install?

Hi does anybody know for sure what years Polaris Sportsman 500 I can interchange my 2009 Sportsman 500 high output carb model transmission with?

My first atv was bought new in 1987, a Suzuki LT125. Currently I am running a 2005 Sportsman 500. The SxS bug has bitten me recently and I have been watching a lot of videos on YouTube. One thing that started bothering me the more I watched is the trail destruction on many of the videos. The newer larger machines on any kind of soft ground just rips up deep ruts in one go. SxS's seem to create more destruction than almost any ATV can do. Some of what causes that is they take the SxS in places an ATV would never dare attempt to ride. They also have to take multiple attempts to get through, and when they do, they are not easy on the loud pedal when they do.

Many people in those videos I am sure don't ride on property they own. Many also don't go to off road parks like Hatfield&McCoy where they maintain the property and can clean up the roads on a yearly basis. Does that destruction of trails and property not concern anyone else.

So suddenly my fuse for the read taillights keep blowing. What could be causing this?

Does anyone have a part number for the stock lug nuts for the plain black steel rims? I am going to get a new set of tires next month and my old ones look pretty bad.

Hey people. My name is Terry and I drive a 2012 Commander 1000 side by side. I just started to have this problem. Right after the machine starts, the alternator light comes on for a brief second, then goes out. When I turn my key back for the lights to come on. They don't and my alternator light comes back on and I get the message, check engine. The only thing that I have done so far was check the battery. It's fine. I was wondering if there is any modules that i should be looking for or any suggestions before I rip the hell out of it. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
